Last Week in College Gym: July 30

During the offseason, it can be difficult to keep up with all the news and training updates happening across the teams. So each week, we will provide a curation of the most exciting upgrades, as well as other important news happening in the college gym world. Note the majority of the training updates highlighted will feature new skills and not someone training their same routine from the past season, for example.

Finally, note we are only able to share links to updates posted on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook and not Instagram Stories or Snapchat. However, we will try to note any clips of note that we see on those disappearing platforms.

Taylor Lawson Trains New Series

The Stanford sophomore is spending a lot of time in the gym this summer by the looks of social media. This week, Stanford posted her doing a back handspring layout step-out on beam—what its calling a new series. She did not compete beam for the Cardinal in 2018 but performed a back handspring to two-foot layout in exhibition.

Updates from Jenny Hansen

Minnesota head coach Jenny Hansen gave some summer updates from the Gophers. We might see some Ivy Lu floor this year, to go with an upgraded bar set. Hansen also teased Becca Taylor’s injury comeback. Taylor has been working hard, especially on bars, where she showed a Tkatchev on Minnesota’s Instagram Story.

William & Mary junior Elizabeth Snoddy, a frequent floor contributor for the Tribe last season, is looking to become a contender on beam. She is training a switch leap and a switch half.

Trinity Thomas Prepares 10.0 Vault

New Florida freshman Trinity Thomas showed off a solid Yurchenko 1.5 on her Instagram story earlier this week. This will add yet another 10.0 SV option to Florida’s arsenal as it works to replace those it lost in its 2018 graduating class.

Maddie Karr Progresses Hop Full

Denver junior Maddie Karr has put her hop full to the high bar, per her Instagram Story. There’s still form to work out, but it’s exciting to see her progress it to the high bar.
