Week three was another exciting one! Kentucky continued its rise in the SEC while Ball State had yet another upset over a higher-ranked team. But there’s no way you watch it all unfold. Catch up with everything you missed below with results for individual event winners, links to team highlights and recaps of the top 10 teams.
No. 1 Oklahoma at No. 28 West Virginia
Full Results | OU: 197.925 | WVU: 195.550
VT: Nichols 10.000 | UB: Nichols 9.925 | BB: Nichols 9.975 | FX: Nichols 9.975 | AA: Nichols 39.875The Sooners continued their dominant performance Saturday evening against West Virginia. They were led by super freshman Maggie Nichols who scored a new program all-around record of 39.875 and tied the best ever by a freshman. Nichols scored her first and likely not last perfect 10.0 on vault by sticking her

Yurchenko 1.5. She swept the other three events as well with a 9.925 on bars and 9.975 on beam and floor. Moreover, this was the first road meet for the Sooners, and they proved that their No. 1-ranking is well justified. Keeping to her usual strategy, coach K.J Kindler did not change her line-ups, except on vault where sophomore Alex Marks was replaced by freshman Jade Degouveia who had been held back until now because of illness. For their first home meet, the Mountaineers showed a tremendous improvement from their first two times out and scored their highest total so far. After a disastrous bars rotation last week, the team bounced back this weekend on that event and scored a season-best 48.800. Sophomore Kirah Koshinski led the team on vault and floor where she recorded a 9.850 and a 9.950, respectively.
No. 59 TWU at No. 2 LSU
Full Results | LSU: 197.475 | TWU: 192.625
VT: Gnat 9.900 | UB: Finnegan 9.925 | BB: Gnat, Finnegan 9.925 | FX: Gnat 9.925 | AA: Finnegan 39.300LSU was back at home to face TWU in what was an easy meet for the Tigers. They got the chance to (finally) introduce 2016 Olympian Ruby Harrold to the fans and to the big delight of the gymternet. Harrold’s debut was highly anticipated, and the freshman didn’t disappoint, scoring a 9.875 on bars and a 9.85 on floor. Her bar routine was exciting and featured her unique

Zuchold transition to the low bar, a skill rarely seen on the collegiate or elite scene. The Tigers continued to be led by senior Ashleigh Gnat and junior Myia Hambrick who both were rested and did not compete in the all-around that evening. Gnat won the three events she competed on, while Hambrick kept up with her consistency of posting reliable and high scores for her team. While never in contention for the “W”, the Pioneers put up a solid performance and recorded their highest team total so far this season despite having to count two falls on balance beam. The team shone on floor where it almost broke 49 and was led by Erin Alderman and Schyler Jones each scoring a 9.825 on the event.
No. 3 Florida at No. 52 North Carolina
Full Results | UF: 197.325 | UNC: 194.300
VT: McMurtry 9.950 | UB: McMurtry 9.900 | BB: McMurtry 9.950 | FX: Boren 9.950 | AA: Boren 39.625This meet was highly anticipated by gymnastics fans as it was the #BeTrue meet in support of the LGBTQ community, an unprecedented theme for an NCAA gymnastics meet. The Tar Heels graced us with a beautiful leo that featured a rainbow heart on the back, while Gator Kennedy Baker put on amazing rainbow eyeshadow. The meet was already a win before it even started. The Gators easily took the win with a 197.325 even while resting Baker, thus allowing freshman

Rachel Gowey to get a go at the all around and sophomore Amanda Cheney to compete on beam. The team was led by Alex McMurtry, who swept all three events she was entered in, and by sophomore Alicia Boren who won the all-around and floor. The Tar Heels put up a much better performance from last week’s season opener, where the nerves got to them. This time around, the young team handled the pressure and improved its team score by two points. Junior Morgan Lane continued to dazzle the crowd with her beam set (if you haven’t seen her mount yet, get out from under your rock!) as she scored an all-around total of 39.250. The gymternet also collectively fell in love with UNC’s beam sets, featuring great 180 leaps, illusion turns and 2.5 dismounts. The home team also set an attendance record at this meet, with over 4,000 fans showing up in the stands. All in all, it was a successful competition for both teams, and we hope this theme will become a mainstay in the gymnastics community.
No. 4 Alabama at No. 8 Missouri
Full Results | Bama: 197.225 | Mizzou: 195.500
VT: Guerrero, Ward 9.950 | UB: Bailey 9.875 | BB: Guerrero, Sims 9.950 | FX: Winston 9.950 | AA: Tucker 39.325This was Mizzou’s pink meet featuring way too bright pink leos from both teams. But that’s another story. The big, unfortunate, part of this meet was the injury to sophomore Morgan Porter. Porter was carried off the floor after falling during touch with what appeared to be an Achilles or ankle injury. We haven’t received any updates yet on the status of Porter, but losing the 2015 SEC Freshman of the Year will certainly be a blow to the Tigers. That said, she did not compete in the first meet of the season and the team did just fine, actually scoring its

highest total yet. While Porter brings in big scores, the Tigers will hopefully step it up and use their depth to continue their successful season so far. Against Alabama, the team had a rough go on bars and was forced to count a fall, but it was able to come back on beam and floor and break 49 on both events. The Tide won the meet after also having a rough bars rotation where the gymnasts had trouble finding and sticking their landings. The team got its momentum back on vault after sticking a few landings, and had a huge beam rotation totaling a 49.6. Aja Sims and Nickie Guerrero were the highlights of the rotation each scoring 9.95. Junior Kiana Winston was rested from the all-around due to a sore shoulder, but she still competed on beam and floor.
No. 15 Boise State, No. 7 Denver, No. 56 UIC at No. 5 Utah
Full Results | Utah: 197.625 | DU: 196.875 | Boise State: 196.225 | UIC: 193.250
VT: Skinner 9.975 | UB: Rowe 9.950 | BB: Rowe, Skinner 9.925 | FX: Skinner 9.975 | AA: Skinner 39.775Freshman Mykayla Skinner continued to impress and to dominate at this meet. Skinner recorded two 9.975 on vault and floor, a 9.925 on beam, and a 9.9 on bars for an all-around score of 39.775. The Utes need her scores now more than ever following the devastating injury

to Sabrina Schwab and after Tiffani Lewis split her toe and has thus been taken out of leg events for the moment. Nevertheless, these two setbacks allowed for the Utes to test their depth and to allow new faces on each event. Freshman Missy Reinstadtler made her debuts on vault, beam and floor and it would not be surprised if we see her again on the last two. Freshman Kim Tessen was also introduced to the floor lineup, while Kari Lee stepped up on bars and Baely Rowe on vault. These new lineups didn’t disappoint, as the team set new season-highs on all four events. Denver remained in the race for the entire meet and continued to improve its team score from the previous competitions. The Pioneers still put up only five gymnasts on vault and floor, but thankfully did not have to count any falls or shaky routines. Nikole Addison continued to be a reliable floor anchor and scoring yet again the highest floor score of the team. The Boise State Broncos finished third and close behind the Pioneers, and improved their scores in all four events from last weekend’s season-opener. The Broncos saw their best score on the uneven bars, highlighted by a 9.900 from freshman Courtney McGregor. Finally, Illinois-Chicago ended the quad meet in fourth place and recorded its season-high team score of 193.250.
No. 11 Auburn at No. 9 Kentucky
Full Results | UK: 197.100 | Auburn: 195.800
VT: Davis 9.850 | UB: Carlisle, Korth 9.875 | BB: Dukes 9.950 | FX: Korth 9.950 | AA: Korth 39.450Kentucky continued to prove it is a legitimate contender for the SEC evening session by beating Auburn in front of a sold-out crowd in Lexington. Relying on its four strong all-arounders (Dukes, Hyland, Korth and Stuart), the Wildcats broke yet another record that they previously topped last week by scoring a 197.100, now the program’s highest team score ever. Freshman Mollie Korth continued to shine by winning the all-around once again and scoring

a 9.950 on floor. Sophomore NCAA qualifier Sydney Dukes also had a fantastic night, scoring a 9.950 on beam and a 9.925 on floor. It has been heart-warming to see the Wildcats do well after their last two seasons, which were plagued by injuries and bad, bad news. The young Auburn team faced its first road-meet of the season and put up a solid performance against the Wildcats. The Tigers scored a season-high on bars and had a solid performance on beam but will need to start finding its landings on vault to hopefully break 49.000 on that event. Freshman Gracie Day continued to be a solid contributor to the team on threeevents, and junior Abby Milliet competed on only bars and beam where she put up solid scores for the team. The Tigers have two meets coming up next weekend and will look forward to hopefully posting their first “W” of the season.
