April 18 Power Rankings

This week Casey and Elizabeth rank the top 12 teams as characters from everyone’s favorite movie, Mean Girls.  Who’s wearing sweatpants for the second time this week, and who is winning Prom Queen. As always, Let us know who you have in your top 15 and which Mean Girls character you think it resembles in the comments or on Twitter. And if you’re a traditionalist, you can check out the official rankings on Road to Nationals.

Oklahoma – Cady Heron
Like Cady, Oklahoma is a sweetheart and liked by everyone. She started out as the new girl, kind of weird and not in the know, but slowly became a part of the plastics and one of the most popular girls in the school. Oklahoma recently came into its own, was new to the Super Six party and had some weird choreography. But with time, people grew to love the Sooners.
LSU – Karen Smith
Like Karen, LSU has some blonde moments, like the falls from Cannamela in prelims and Finnegan in finals. But when they get into a groove like their final vault rotation, LSU can be amazing. I’m 30 percent sure D-D is already bedazzling a new blouse for 2017.
Alabama – Gretchen Weiners
Always in the Super Six and with a chance to win it all. Carley Sims totally reversed the Gretchen Weiners fate and made fetch happen when she cat walked down the vault runway in prelims. But despite being in the top tier every year, the Tide was robbed of that SEC title and finished off the top of the podium yet again. And none for Alabama. Bye.
Florida – Regina George
Florida has been on the top of the NCAA world for about three years now. They have been mostly unbeatable and a favorite to win at all times. Like Regina they have enjoyed this popularity, but they got hit by a bus at Super Six.  The Gators ended up fourth, much lower than predicted.  Hopefully, they can bedazzle their figurative neck brace and come back strong in 2017.
UCLA – Damian Leigh
UCLA is the queen. Everyone wants to hang out with it. I mean, what’s not to love? And the hair. Nush? Sophina? Their hair is so big because it’s full of secrets. Damian had some of the best one-liners in Mean Girls. And UCLA has some of the best routines in the NCAA. Danusia beam, Sophina floor… we could go on. But Damian is real and going to tell it like it is just like Miss Val. And if you don’t like it… You don’t even go here!
Georgia – Janis Ian
Sure Janis has her flaws, but when she makes art it is beautiful. Georgia’s beam rotation from Super Six was a work of art. They put it together at the right time, and turned their weakness into a strength.
Cal – Kevin Gnapoor
At first you think Kevin is just a nerd and captain of the Mathletes. Turns out Kevin G is a rap master and has more swag than anyone. Cal was a team many people had pinned to end up at the bottom of this list, but surprise, they ended up 7th. Missing Toni-Ann was a major concern, but like Kevin G this team had the swagger to finish the record breaking season with a clutch 7th place finish.
Nebraska – Principal Duvall
Despite his arm injury, Principal Duvall is not afraid to take on an out of control riot of high schoolers.  Nebraska faced one of the scariest injuries to happen in Super Six, and handled it like true professionals. It was incredible for those girls to go up on bars after that, and to hit beam in the following rotation. I give them so much credit for this finish.
Utah – Ms. Norbury
It is weird to see a teacher outside of school, in her waitress outfit. It’s also weird to see last seasons’ second place finishers in 9th.
Stanford – Glenn Coco
Glen Coco is only in the movie for about 5 seconds, but has one of the most memorable moments in the film. Stanford has been MIA in the rankings all season… but they can pull out some of the most memorable gymnastics in the NCAA. They get at least 5 candy canes from me for putting in Ivana Hong on floor.
Auburn – Aaron Samuels
What did beam ever do to Auburn? Bound to make the Super Six a second time, the beam zombie ex-wife came and had a different plan. During the season, the Tigers and beam were seen canoodling at Chris Isen’s halloween party — er playing nice and getting along well. But Super Six was a different story. Beating Alabama was grool. But not grool enough to finish it at nationals.
Minnesota – Shane Oman
Shane took advantage of an open opportunity and stepped in when Aaron Samuels was out of the picture with Regina. Just like Shane, Minnesota came back from a 193 start and took advantage of Denver’s mistakes at regionals and made its way to nationals.
