Leotard Rankings: Week 9

While lots of teams chose to rewear leotards this weekend, others debuted new ones for their senior nights. Some were hits while others were misses, so see what we thought below. But don’t take our word for it. Let us know what you thought of this weekend’s leotards in the comments or on Twitter!

Total: 8.2/10This one is lovely. I don’t like the belt, but the rest is spot on for me. Much better than the normal G leo’s we see from them.

I really liked this one. The arms aresopretty and sparkly and RED. The detailing on the arms and chest was also very cool and flattering and athletic-looking. I could give or take the bust red/mesh/cross-hatching. It would have looked fine without but looks fine with too. I also like the sparkly super G on the back.

Total: 9.1/10I loveeeee a white leo. This is a smart design as the side cut outs and colored rhinestones keep it from looking too white or boring.  I don’t love the lettering on the neckline but the rest is fab. I read that this design is based on the band leaders’ uniform which makes it even more special.

These leos are a mixture between disco unitards and cheerleading uniforms. I like of love them. The white was meh, but I loved the purple and gold and sequin detailing on the arms. And they prety much looked good on everyone despite being white.

I kind of like it? A lot? I surprise even myself sometimes. The mesh in random places doesn’t do it for me, but I do like the random swirls and sparkles. It’s organized chaos almost. Plus it looked good on the girls, which is pretty important.

Total: 8/10I do like this Utah leo. I has a nice presence in the arena and the multi colored rhinestones tie it all together. The gradient on the arms is very unique and flows well.

This is one of my favorite Utah leos. I love ombre and red, so this was bound to be a winner. It’s quite different from the typical Ute leo, so that’s a nice change as well. The red sleeves on back looks classy and the U is a good splash of school spirit.

I like this one. The white arms are lovely and the orange is just enough without being overwhemling. The added sparkles are just enough as well. I just think the orange goes a tad too hit on the beck and looks kind of like a halter top or choker necklace?

I don’t like the front very much. Because hogs. But I do really love the back. So I’m torn. The back cut makes the girls’ look super athletic and muscular and the arms are a different mesh that looks cool. I just don’t like the sparkly hog on the front.

Total: 6.5/10I didn’t love this but it works well. I wish the mesh was a bit darker for a better contrast. However, I do have to give them a 0.3 neutral deduction for wearing a leo with no black on it to a blackout meet. Stanford pulled out a leo from about 50 years ago for this, I know you have a black leo in your closet.

This is one of my fave Georgia leos. I like the mostly-red design as a good amount of Georgia leos are mostly black. The white part is just like Oregon State’s this week and that one I loved of Stanford’s a couple weeks ago. So it’s not super original, but I do like the color combo used.

School Spirit: 1.4/2
Overall Appearance: 2.3/3
Total: 7.7/10This leo is sooo pretty. Similar to some other UCLA leo’s with the cascading rhinestones, but this is one of the best. The subtle blue accents really made it look great.

I really loved the back on this one. The low cut and sparkles around the edge looked really good on the girls. The front design was fine. I didn’t love it, but whatevs. I like the blue accents and the sparkle, but I’ve not a huge fan of that icicle sparkle design.

Denver
Score: 7.0
Casey
Design: 2/3
Fabric/Sparkle: 1.5/2
School Spirit: 1.4/2

Total: 6.9/10Not my favorite Denver leo, but still above average. The design almost looks like a maple leaf from far away. Good touch of gold in this to spice it up.

I like how Denver added in the gold. The crimson color is nice as always and goes well with the gold. I don’t love the spikey design, but I don’t hate it either.

Auburn
Auburn wore this leo in its first meet of the season, but we didn’t judge it then, so we’re judging it now!
Score: 6.95
Casey
Design: 2.3/3
Fabric/Sparkle: 1.4/2
School Spirit: 1.5/2
Overall Appearance: 2.3/3
Total: 7.5/10I think this one is pretty good. Not too much going on, but the stripey design adds some flair. I also like the subtle touch of white.

Elizabeth

Fabric/Sparkle: 1.2/2
School Spirit: 1.6/2

This leo’s alright. It’s more exciting than some of Auburn’s leos, but I always think the orange looks like someone’s hands are grabbing onto the girls’ waists. Although my mom pointed out it looks like tiger stripes, so I guess that’s where they were going.

Alabama
Score: 6.3
Casey
Design:1.8/3
Fabric/Sparkle: 1.4/2
School Spirit: 1.6/2
Overall Appearance: 1.6/3
Total: 6.4/10I wish they would have done a bit more with the A on the front. The rest is nice but nothing too unique. It’s a bit dark, could maybe use a touch of white?

Elizabeth
Design: 1.6/3
Fabric/Sparkle: 1.3/2
School Spirit: 1.6/2
Overall Appearance: 1.7/3
Total: 6.2/10

This is a pretty generic design that lots of other teams have used. I also like the silver fabric and the crimson fabric separate, but I don’t think they look good together. Something’s just off.

ASU
Score: 5.95
Casey
Design: 2/3
Fabric/Sparkle: 1.2/2
School Spirit: 2/2
Overall Appearance: 1.4/3
Total: 6.6/10It’s kinda crazy, and it’s very ASU. I feel that ASU is the Italy of NCAA leotards. Always a bit crazy, and has weird cut outs like a classic Vanessa Ferrari number. The pitchford is cool, just probably better as a concept than a real item.

Elizabeth
Design: 1.3/3
Fabric/Sparkle: 1.0/2
School Spirit: 1.7/2
Overall Appearance: 1.3/3

Oh, wow. Ok, so good school spirit? But also I feel like this breaks NCAA dress code or something? What’s the rule about thin straps and sleeveless? (Half-sleeveless?) I really don’t have any more words…

Florida
Score: 5.4
Casey
Design: 1.4/3
Fabric/Sparkle: 1/2
School Spirit: 1/2
Overall Appearance: 1.8/3
Total: 5.2/10A bit too plain for my taste. If you are going to only use rhinestones for design… you have to use a lot. It needs more!

Elizabeth
Design: 1.4/3
Fabric/Sparkle: 1.1/2
School Spirit: 1.5/2

Total: 5.6/10

This is quite boring. The F was nice and the sparkles coming from it OK. I liked the Florida on the back and the extra straps added more to the design to keep it from being overly boring. But overall, it was still boring. Not a lot of color, not a lot of sparkle, not a lot of anything.

Stanford
Score: 1.3
Casey
Design: 0.3/3
Fabric/Sparkle: 0.2/2
School Spirit: 0.2/2
Overall Appearance: 0.5/3
Total: 1.2/10I was at this meet and when Stanford took off their warm ups I was…. confused. I thought it was a warm up leo or a mistake. By the end of the meet it grew on me a bit, but it really was not great. There was no design, no indicator that it was Stanford, nothing. It could have been a sizer leo. The only redeeming factor was that the girls had on some fierce dark lipstick that reminded me of Jessie Jordan, who I dearly miss.

No no no no no no no no no. No. I can’t even with this leotard. Maybe, and I really mean maybe, I would like it if it wasn’t plain black. Why wasn’t there anything whatsoever on the front. An S? Some sparkle? Even a tree for goodness sake. The back was cool but the rest was so atrocious I couldn’t deal. Cat women they were not.
