LIVE BLOG: No. 14 Arizona State at No. 1 Oklahoma

Another day, another senior night blog!

Oklahoma is coming off of a loss at No. 2 Michigan, so the Sooners are coming in ready for a victory. Olivia Trautman has come out swinging on her three events and will be looking to go out on a high note on her senior night as will Allie Stern, who had a miscue on vault last time out. For the underclassmen, it will be business as usual for the last meet before Big 12 championship in Morgantown.

For Arizona State, it has surged through the rankings and seems to have hit its stride right before Pac-12 championship. Hannah Scharf led the team in an upset victory over Oregon State last time out, hitting her stride after a slow start to her season. The Sun Devils have hit 197 in their last three meets, so coming into this meet, they will want to continue that momentum to keep them in contention for a seeded position in the postseason.

Rotation 1: OU vault, ASU bars

Sievers: Yurchenko 1.5, small step on the landing. Good height and distance off the table. 9.875.

Theodorou: mount on high bar, straddled Jaeger pretty in the air, Bail to handstand is right at 180, double layout, big leg separation in the air, stick. 9.775.

Stern: Yurchenko 1.5, small hop forward on the landing. Good comeback after a rough outing at Michigan. 9.875.

Samiley: mount on high bar, blind change to straddled Jaeger to immediate overshoot, pretty combination. Maybe short on the last handstand, double layout dismount stick. 9.825.

Levasseur: Yurchenko 1.5, STICK. Lots of distance off the table. I can’t find a lot in terms of deductions, so let’s see what the judges do. And it’s a 10.000!

Mangahas: mount on high bar, blind change to piked Jaeger, some foot form in the air, half in half out with a stick! 9.825

Trautman: Yurchenko 1.5, massive height in the air, some soft knees, step forward on the landing. 9.925.

Scharf: mount on low bar, Maloney with some leg separation, much cleaner on the Pak salto, half in half out dismount, stuck! 9.825.

Bowers: Yurchenko 1.5, bent knees in the air, underrotated with a step back. 9.850.

White: mount on low bar, toe on to Van Leeuwen, half pirouette to Bail to handstand back to the low bar, double layout, maybe some feet form in the air, with a small hop back. Cool routine composition! 9.875.

Davis: Yurchenko 1.5, some leg separation in pre-flight, step forward on the landing. She also landed off to the side. 9.825.

Clark: mount on high bar, blind change to straddled Jaeger, lots of amplitude. Pak salto to the low bar with minor leg separation, double layout with a stick. 9.875.

Ramsey (exh): Yurchenko full, beautiful height with a stick. Piked it down ever so slightly. 9.900.

Reeves (exh): mount on high bar, blind change to straddled Jaeger, SUPER high in the air, to immediate overshoot. Double layout, leg separation, with a small hop on the landing. 9.775.

After 1: Oklahoma 49.525, ASU 49.225

Overall, a solid opening rotation! ASU had sticks on most of its landings, a good sign of how dialed in they are today. Oklahoma only had one stick on vault from Levasseur as she scores her second 10.000 of the season and third of her career.

Rotation 2: ASU vault, OU bars

Reeves: Yurchenko full, good block, hop on the landing. Some leg separation in preflight and soft knees. 9.775.

Bit of a delay on bars. Not sure why.

Sievers: mount on low bar, beautiful first handstand, Maloney to immediate Pak salto, no leg separation, maybe short on the final handstand, half in half out with a small step back on the landing. 9.875.

White: Yurchenko full, beautiful form in the air, hop back on the landing. 9.825.

Torrez: Lineup change here. Mount on low bar, Maloney, minor leg separation, to Pak salto, better on the legs. Double layout dismount, maybe a low chest, but a stick. 9.875.

Mangahas: Yurchenko full, good form in the air, some twisted legs in preflight, hop back on the landing. 9.850.

R. Smith: mount on high bar, Ray release move, good height in the air, Pak salto to the low bar with no leg separation, double layout dismount with a stick. Some leg separation on the layouts, but it’s the best one she’s done all season. 9.900.

Theodorou: Different looking vault here, half on, tuck off with a stick! 9.925.

Trautman: mount on low bar, Maloney to Pak salto with good form in the air, beautiful handstands throughout, double layout with the tiniest hop back. 9.950.

A. Smith: Yurchenko 1.5, tons of distance, underrotated with a hop back on the landing. 9.900.

Bowers: Blind change to straddled Jaeger caught with bent arms, Pak salto to low bar, beautiful form on the half pirouette, half in half out dismount with a low chest and a stick.  9.950.

Scharf: Yurchenko full, massive height in the air with a stick! 9.900.

Davis: Higgins roll to piked Jaeger, Pak salto down to the low bar with a beautiful final handstand, double front half dismount with a hop back. 9.875.

Jaslow (exh): Yurchenko full, lots of distance, not a ton of height, low chest on the landing with a hop back. 9.825.

Siegfeldt (exh): mount on low bar, Maloney to Pak salto combination was clean in the air, maybe short on the handstands, double front dismount stuck! 9.825

After 2: Oklahoma 99.075, ASU 98.625

Arizona State continued the stick momentum on the vault to score a season-high 49.400 on vault! Oklahoma had another solid rotation on the uneven bars and heads into the second half of this one up by almost half a tenth.

Rotation 3: OU beam, ASU floor

Dunn: BHS BHS LOSO beautifully done, split jump to straddle half, maybe the tiniest feet form in the air. Gainer full off the end of the beam stuck. What a beautiful way to end her final regular season routine at the LNC! 9.850.

Lee: First pass is FHS to front double full, couldn’t see the feet on the landing, but looked okay. Back 1.5 to front layout was controlled on the landings. Lacked a little split on the leap series. Rudi with a lunge back. Good opening routine! 9.800.

Trautman: Final regular season beam routine for the fifth year! BHS LOSO…and she falls. Wow. Don’t know how long it’s been since I’ve seen that. Cat leap to switch side is spot on. Front toss is clean with high chest. RO 1.5 with a stick. She was off on the layout and that was where the fall happened. 9.250.

Theodorou: Tucked full-in, stumbled out of bounds. Shame because the Sun Devils had a chance to capitalize on Trautman’s fall. Back 1.5 to front layout pass was more controlled. That jump was a fun way to end the routine, minus the out of bounds. 9.575.

Bowers: Need a reset here for the Sooners. BHS LOSO spot on. Wobbled on the leap series, but stayed on. RO double twist, solid on the landing. 9.875.

Jaslow: double pike first pass, nicely done and pretty form in the air. Switch side to Popa, beautiful 180 position in the air. Front layout to front full pass, beautiful control on that landing. Final pass is a double tuck, best landing of the three. Good reset routine after Theodorou! 9.825.

Torrez: piked jump pretty in the air. Side aerial to LOSO, best control she’s had on that pass. Switch leap to straddle jump. RO 1.5 dismount stuck! Best routine she’s done all year. 9.975, career high, WOW!

White: FHS front double full, clean on the landing. RO 1.5 to front layout is controlled. Switch ring to switch half, lacked the tiniest amount of split on the switch half. Final pass is front full to front layout, nicely done! 9.875.

Davis: BHS LOSO, maybe the tiniest balance check. Front aerial is clean. Beat jump to split ring, very difficult but nicely done. RO double full, stick. That will likely be a big score. 9.900.

Mangahas: Tucked full-in, low landing and bent knees. Second pass is front tuck through to double tuck, another low landing. Good position in the air on those leaps. Not the routine she wanted, but should be higher than Theodorou. 9.600.

R. Smith: Needs to stay on to avoid counting a fall. BHS LOSO, solid on the landing. Front aerial is clean, straddle half to BHS swingdown, her usual. This is a good routine so far, BHS gainer full stick. Will drop Trautman’s fall! 9.975.

Scharf: Cool opening choreography! Front tuck through to double tuck, nice control on that landing. Second pass is front full to front tuck, fought for that landing! Final pass is a double pike, great form in the air. 9.900.

Levasseur (exh): Coming off of a perfect 10 on vault. Beautiful full turn. BHS LOSO spot on. Switch leap to straddle quarter, good position. Off on the front aerial, had to lift her leg. Switch leap to BHS gainer full dismount. Despite the small bobble, it was a clean routine! 9.775.

Clark (exh): Beautiful form on the double pike! Back 1.5 to front layout second pass is clean in the air. Switch ring, not quite 180 in the air. Double tuck, very low landing, not sure how she saved that. 9.675.

After 3: Oklahoma 148.650, ASU 147.625

Oklahoma rallied after the fall from Trautman and ended with three 9.900 plus scores, including 2 9.975’s from Torrez and Smith. ASU had a good rotation on floor, but will want to find those landings again on the balance beam as we head to the final rotation.

Rotation 4: ASU beam, OU floor

Lee: BHS BHS LOSO, small wobble at the end. Small balance checks throughout but nothing major. RO 1.5 with a step forward. 9.600.

Johnson: Front layout to front full opening pass is clean. Switch half to wolf full series, good toe point. Double tuck final pass is clean. Good leadoff routine for the Sooners. 9.950. Oh boy, this is about to be a fun one. Prepare yourself.

K. Smith: Side aerial from one leg, deep bend at the waist and a fall. BHS LOSO with another fall. You hate to see this. Beautiful split position in the leaps. BHS gainer full with a stick. Pressure sets the rest of the way. 8.450.

Davis: FHS front double full, nice control on the landing. Couldn’t see her leap positions but looked like she got them all the way around. RO 1.5 to front full, maybe lacked a little control on the step forward? Fun choreography though! 9.900.

Important note from Jenna: a 198.225 from OU mathematically clinches the No. 1 seed in the postseason.

Harper: Front toss to BHS series is clean. Cat leap to switch half, little uncertain on the landing but she gets it. BHS to gainer full dismount with a stick. 9.775.

R. Smith: Double tuck pass to open, cleanest landing that has been all season. RO 1.5 to front layout, a ton of height. Switch side to wolf full leap series, clean. Double pike final pass, solid control on the landing. 9.975.

Clark: BHS LOSO beautiful form in the air. Leap series was pretty, maybe a little more head release on the second leap? BHS to 1.5 dismount, got the landing. So far, so good. 9.825.

Bowers: So, they’ve changed that second pass that she’s had problems with, so let’s see what her routine looks like now. Oh, they just switched the order of it, front double full to punch front tuck. Double pike second pass instead. She’s trained a tucked full-in so I was hoping that’s what she would do. Good routine for her! 9.950.

White: Two more to go to avoid counting a fall. BHS LOSO and she falls…I jinxed it. Sorry. Beautiful full turn though! Front aerial to beat jump is clean. Good position in the air on the leaps. BHS to 1.5 dismount, tiniest hop on the landing. 9.300.

Torrez: Double layout first pass, tiniest slide of the front foot on the landing. Beautiful height on the leap series. Final pass is a front tuck through to a double tuck, solid on the landing. 9.950.

Scharf: Beautiful double wolf turn to open. BHS LOSO, super floaty in the air. Side somi, had to fight to save it. Switch leap to split jump, pretty in the air. RO 1.5, shuffle of the feet on the landing. Good finish for the Sun Devils. 9.725.

Sievers: First time anchoring this lineup. Tucked full-in first pass, clean on the landing. Front tuck through to double tuck, maybe the tiniest slide of the front foot on the landing, but the judges probably won’t see that in real time. Good position in the air on those leaps. 9.925.

Reeves (exh): BHS BHS LOSO, small wobble on the landing. Soft knees on the leap series. Front aerial, tiny wobble at the end of it. RO 1.5 dismount with a stick. 9.750.

FINAL: Oklahoma 198.400, ASU 195.925

Oklahoma mathematically clinches the No. 1 seed headed into the postseason. The Sooners score a massive 49.750 on floor, scoring nothing lower than a 9.900 on floor. ASU had a rough balance beam rotation and will want to clean up those beam routines before heading to PAC-12s on Saturday.

VT: Katherine Levasseur (OU) – 10.000
UB: Jordan Bowers & Olivia Trautman (OU) – 9.950
BB: Ragan Smith & Faith Torrez (OU) – 9.975
FX: Ragan Smith (OU) – 9.975
AA: Jordan Bowers (OU) – 39.625
