About Maddie

Komoroski is a 2019 J.O. nationals qualifier. There, she finished sixth on floor and tied for ninth in the all around (Junior C). In 2019 she also tied for silver on beam and was fourth in the all around at Region 7 regionals.

What She Brings to Maryland

Vault

  • Skill: tucked Yurchenko full
  • Results: third place at the 2020 Arnold Gymnastics Challenge (career high)
  • Margin of Improvement: This is a new vault for Komoroski. It looks good in the air but is still rather deep on the landing.
  • Impact on the Team: The Terps did not necessarily compete the hardest vaults in 2020, but their execution was strong—four gymnasts scored 9.900s. Komoroski will have to increase her difficulty to challenge for a spot in the lineup. She has time and potential to do so.

Uneven Bars

  • Skills: blind half to straddled Jaeger, Pak salto, blind full to double tuck dismount
  • Results: first place at 2020 Nashville Nights (career high)
  • Margin of Improvement: Komoroski has small leg separations on her pirouettes, could improve her handstands a bit and could achieve more height on her Jaeger. Nevertheless, her routine is solid, and with two more years of club gymnastics her execution will likely be college ready. Her Pak salto is gorgeous.
  • Impact on the Team: Of Maryland’s 2020 top bar scorers, only Aleka Tsiknias will still be competing once Komoroski gets to college. She still needs some time to polish her routine, but if she does, she will be expected to contribute to the lineup.

Balance Beam

  • Skills: one arm BHS + LOSO, front aerial to split jump to beat jump, full turn, switch leap to leap jump to sheep jump, 1.5 twist dismount
  • Results: tied second place at the 2019 Region 7 regionals
  • Margin of Improvement: Komoroski will want to work on consistency a little bit more, but her form and toe point are impressive.
  • Impact on the Team: Beam was the Terps’ weakest apparatus in 2020: They failed to score higher than 9.850. Komoroski’s beautiful execution will make a difference here in a few years.

Floor Exercise

  • Skills: front double twist, roundoff, whip to back double twist, 1.5 twist to front pike
  • Results: sixth place at the 2019 J.O. nationals (Junior C)
  • Margin of Improvement: Komoroski’s floor results are very shaky, but when she hits, her routine is strong. Her twists are tight and her leaps are well extended. She will want to work on her landings a bit more, as well as on consistency.
  • Impact on the Team: Of Maryland’s best floor workers, Emma Silberman and Reese McClure will still be competing once Komoroski arrives in College Park. Komoroski can score 9.900s as they do if she can hit all her landings.
