Top teams faced off this weekend in NCAA gymnastics with a few coming out defeated. No. 2 Florida lost to No. 7 LSU for the first time at home in 22 years. Denver broke records left and right. No. 4 Michigan at No. 1 Oklahoma: Full Results

With its third 197 of the season and first on the road, the Wolverines lost to Oklahoma 198.075-197.275. It was also Oklahoma’s season-high and first 198 of the year. The Sooners continued to dominate, doing so with a number of career-highs. Ali Jackson had a 9.975 on vault for her nailed Yurchenko one and a half and Nicole Lehrmann and Chayse Capps put up 9.95 career-highs on bars. The team also tallied a massive 49.7 on floor for its second-highest mark on the event in program history. haley Scaman won floor with a near-perfect 9.975 and Capps won the all around with a 39.675. No. 7 LSU at No. 2 Florida: Full Results

The upset also snapped the Gators’ regular-season home win streak that dated back to the 2008 season. But it was really a great outcome for both teams. LSU scored its highest total of the year,andit was on the road. Florida also put up a very strong mark for its second-highest of the season. Alex McMurtry competed on floor for the first time in her collegiate career, scoring a 9.9, which tied the highest debut score on an event by a Florida gymnast. Bridget Sloan had an off night, falling on beam for the second week in a row and stepping out of bounds on floor. Alex McMurtry fell on bars in a fluke mistake as well, but still scored a 38.8 in the all around, meaning she would have had around a 39.7 had she hit in her usual fashion. For LSU, it was a homecoming for Ashleigh Gnat who is from Lake Mary, Fla. Gnat sealed the victory for the Tigers with a 9.95 on beam. She also had a 9.95s on vault and floor. Perfect 10s and 9.975s were flying around like fruit flies. But in a touching gesture before the meet, not only were the Alabama seniors Lauren Beers and Carley Sims honored but Georgia’s Mary Beth Box, Brandie Jay, Brittany Rogers and Anysia Unick were as well. But after the pre-meet festivities, it was back to business in one of NCAA gymnastics’ biggest rivalries. Beers started off the night for the Tide with a perfect 10 on vault. While the whole team looked to improve its performance, the most crucial contributed had to be Toni-Ann Williams. When she’s off, the team suffers. And she did get back to her normal self, albeit a watered down one. Williams “only” competed her Yurchenko full and front full beam dismount rather than their harder counterparts. Utah seemed a high road score to help bump itself up in the standings. But yet another low 197 situated it right where it’s been performing all season. The Utes had to deal with a couple of nagging injuries, so it’s depth was tested in Berkeley. Lee had a knee scope and will be out for a few weeks. The absences allowed those with less experience to gain more before the postseason. Stella Savvidou, a freshman that only joined the team in January, competed on beam while Nicki Shapiro added bars to her set. Vault started off rough as the team only had two scores above 9.775. Auburn’s 197.200, just 0.075 shy of its season-high, was a strong mark that should keep it in the hunt for the last night session spot at the SEC championships. Missouri had a great outing as well despite the loss, totaling its fifth-best beam rotation in program history and freshman Morgan Porter’s 39.450 in the all around was the second-highest by a freshman for Missouri. The team’s 197.225 tied its program record total while its bar score of a 49.550 is its highest-ever in Barnhill Arena. Kentucky got in on the fun as well, scoring a massive 196.700, smashing its previous season-high of 196.050. Wildcat freshman Katie Stuart had a 9.9 on vault while fellow classmate Sidney Dukes scores the same mark on beam. Alex Hyland had a 9.925 on beam and Cori Rechenmacher had a 9.9 on the same event. For the Razorbacks, Amanda Wellick own the all around with two 9.9s, a 9.95 on floor and a 9.85 to equal a 39.6. With Stanford dealing with a depleted lineup and Oregon State at home, the Beavers were posed to win it. And thanks to freshman McKenna Singley, they did. After Ivana Hong fell on beam, Singley needed a 9.825 on floor to clinch the win for Oregon State. And she didn’t just get that score but notched a career-high with a 9.9. Even more impressive was the fact that Singley wasn’t even supposed to compete in the official lineup. Scheduled for an exhibition, she found out she was up in the anchor spot after the 30-second touch before the rotation began. But that obviously didn’t faze her. Stanford had a solid night despite the adversity it faced. Elizabeth Price continued to defeat all competition in her sight and Nicolette McNair put up yet another trio of 9.8+ scores. However, the mistakes added up and the Cardinal lost another close one, making it harder and harder as the weeks pass to get into a good position for regional competition. |

With depleted depth, Nebraska still managed to put together a strong performance for a mid-196 and a win in its annual Masters Classic. Only seven Huskers competed Saturday, but they picked up four of the five event titles up for grabs. Hollie Blanske and Danielle Breen tied for the vault title with a 9.875, Breen also won beam with a 9.9 and the all around with a 39.475. Blanske added the floor title to her winning night with a 9.9 and also finished second to Breen in the all around by just 0.050. Northern Illinois’ Jamyra Carter won bars with a 9.85.
