Welcome to week two of an already exciting NCAA gymnastics season! The Boise State Broncos take on the Georgia Bulldogs in Stegeman Coliseum. Tonight is Simone Biles night, and gymnastics fans from all over will be joining to watch the Bulldogs’ home opener under former Olympic and World Champions Center coach Cecile Canqueteau-Landi and meet former Olympian and gymnast of Landi, Simone Biles.
Georgia looked great last week at the Denver quad. Despite a rocky start on beam, the Bulldogs shined during their highly-anticipated season debut. With stuck vaults from Ady Wahl and Nyla Aquino, the Bulldogs put up a 49.3 on vault, tying their season-high vault score from 2024. Outscoring Missouri and Denver on bars and vault, and putting three 49s or better, puts Georgia in a great place going into this week against Boise State.
Boise State took second at the Washington quad meet with a 195.050. The Broncos were on fire, leading the meet through the first two events. Even though they had a fall during beam, the Broncos found no need to count a fall throughout the meet and looked strong on every event. Emma Loyim’s outstanding floor routine helped the Broncos hold on to their lead going into rotation three. Finishing just behind Stanford and above Washington puts Boise State in a great place going into this highly-anticipated SEC matchup.
With Simone Biles in the house and some great gymnastics to display, these two teams will certainly get a party going in Stegeman tonight!

Both teams looked solid for the first event. Georgia is back baby, that’s one of the best vault rotations I’ve seen the Bulldogs have in a hot minute. Boise State had an ever so steady bar rotation. On to another exciting event we go!

Scott (UGA): Huge toe-on Tkatchev to open. Nice double layout, stuck. 9.925
After 2: Georgia 98.350, Boise State 97.700
McGovern was scratched from the vault lineup so Boise State had to go five up five count. I hope she’s okay. Overall, the Broncos looked pretty good on vault, especially knowing every vault would count in the score! Georgia looked really crisp on bars, which was nice to see.

Leitch (BSU): ESPN decided to buffer after her opening leap pass so I have no idea what she did other than pretty leaps with nice height on them. 8.725 (I can only assume from this that she fell on something)
After 3: Georgia 147.450, Boise State 144.900
McGovern was scratched from floor as well so the Broncos had so fill the lineup last minute. Unfortunately, this is definitely going to be a floor rotation they’re going to want to forget about after counting two falls. Hopefully, they can close out the meet strong on beam. Georgia looked phenomenal on beam, despite having a fall. Luckily, the Bulldogs had a strong back half of the lineup and didn’t have to count a fall.
Rotation 4: Boise State BB, Georgia FX
Vulaj (BSU): Gainer bhs loso, so cool to see. Switch leap gainer loso, great height and control. Solid front toss. Nice full turn. Ro 1.5, stuck. 9.8
Williams (UGA): Huge ro bhs double pike to open. Switch leap switch half, not sure how it ended as my feed went super grainy ugh. Fhs front layout front full, solid. Closes with a stuck double back. 9.85
Kho (BSU): Love a candlestick mount. Bhs two foot layout, stuck cold. Nice switch leap switch side. Side gainer full, fights for the stick and holds on to it. 9.725
Mason (UGA): Opens with a wolf turn, don’t see that often in college. Front through to ro bhs double back, nice control. Punch layout to front full, great amplitude. I LOVE her dance in this routine. 9.875
Lopez (BSU): Bhs loso, solid and steady. Nice full turn. Split jump split half, fought against the balance check. Pretty switch leap series. Side gainer full, stuck. 9.775
Backsay (UGA): Ro bhs 2.5 punch front, love this combo. Ro bhs double full, great height. Switch leap switch full, almost gets it all the way around. I love how fun her dance is! Closes with a sky-high double back. 9.825

Wahl (UGA): Ro bhs full-in, love how high this was. Switch leap split full wolf half, great height. Front through ro bhs double back, chest was a little low but nice overall. 9.9
Leitch (BSU): Solid full turn. Bhs two-foot layout, looks a little timid in each skill. Switch leap straddle 1/4, small balance check. Nice front toss. Sticks the dismount. 9.6
Smith (UGA): Beautiful fhs double full to open. The prettiest leaps one has ever seen. Ro bhs 1.5 front layout, great amplitude. Fhs Rudi straddle jump, love the control on this. 9.925
