There’s a lot that happens on the gymternet each week. So much so that it can be hard to keep track of it all. From training updates and COVID-year announcements to recruiting rumors and coaching news, we don’t blame you for missing some important points here and there.

That’s where we come in. Last Week in College Gym is your one-stop shop for all the important headlines from the previous week in college gymnastics. No matter if you’re taking a social media break, went on vacation, or just don’t have the capacity to follow every single gymnast, team, and fan, we have you covered.

Top Storylines

Kara Eaker Transfers to Georgia

Former Red Rock and US national team member Kara Eaker left Utah prior to the start of competition last season. Though she initially said she was retiring from the sport, she recently transferred to Georgia. She has two years of eligibility remaining.

Other Newsworthy Items

  • Academic All-Americans were announced for the 2023-2024 season and school year. Gymnasts who earned  this honor maintained a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
  • Former Texas Woman’s assistant Matt DeGrandpre joined North Carolina’s staff as an assistant.
  • North Carolina assistant coach Marie Denick was promoted to associate head coach.
  • UCLA senior Emma Malabuyo will appear on the FUSE TV docuseries “Like A Girl,” which profiles women in athletics. 
  • The Washington Post profiled incoming Georgia coach Cecile Canqueteau-Landi and her journey from elite coaching to the NCAA.
  • Simone Biles’ Athleta Presents Gold Over America Tour will now feature Olympian and 2026 recruit Hezly Rivera, in addition to previously announced gymnasts with present and past NCAA connections including UCLA’s Jordan Chiles, Katelyn Ohashi, and Peng-Peng Lee, Oregon State’s Jade Carey, and Arkansas’ Joscelyn Roberson.
  • LSU fifth-year Olivia Dunne will be featured in “The Money Game,” a Prime Video documentary series about NIL in the LSU athletics program.

  • Maryland freshman Nicollette Crochet is training a switch half on beam, and a back one and a half to front layout pass on floor.
  • Michigan State junior Elle Beaufait is training a back one and a half to front full pass on floor.
  • UCLA sophomore Sydney Barros is training vault and floor after missing last season due to injury.
  • UCLA sophomore Katelyn Rosen is training a triple series on beam.
  • UCLA senior Brooklyn Moors is training a front aerial to back handspring combination on beam.
  • UCLA fifth year Chae Campbell is training a handspring front pike half vault. 
  • Minnesota junior Seria Johnson is training a half in half out on floor.
  • Kent State sophomore Nene Alvine is training a double layout on floor after missing last season due to an Achilles tear.
  • UCLA sophomore Paige Anastasi is training a piked Jaeger and a Maloney to bail on bars, as well as a two-and-a-half twisting dismount on beam.
