This ACC dual brings us a closely matched meet with two teams looking to climb the rankings as the season progresses. Stanford opened 2025 last week with a 195.600 and will be looking to improve upon that today. Anna Roberts leads this team in the all-around alongside fellow four-eventer and team veteran Brenna Neault, but the Cardinal also brings a stacked freshman class. As a team that tends to ease its freshman in slowly, it will be interesting to see whether highly touted stars like Ui Soma and Levi Jung-Ruivivar will be given the nod today.
N.C. State has competed twice so far this season and also has yet to break the 196 mark. The team is more than capable, though. Keep an eye on freshman Syniya Thomas on the leg events; she has shone for the Wolfpack thus far alongside sixth-year Chloe Negrete.
Rotation 1: Stanford VT, NCSU UB
Chang (Stanford): Yfull, lovely straight body position, small hop on landing. 9.7
Adomaites (NCSU): Maloney, pak, stalder to double back, effortlessly stuck. 9.65, a start value issue somewhere.
Walker (Stanford): Yfull, more height and distance than Chang, tiny bit underrotated and hops to the side. 9.775
Judges’ conference on Adomaites score.
Childs (NCSU): Straddle jaeger to overshoot, hits the handstand position on the pirouette, double tuck dismount with a hop back. 9.7
Neault (Stanford): Yurchenko full on pike off, small hop and chest low on landing. 9.8
Myers (NCSU): Maloney to bail, keeps her legs glued together. Late on her last pirouette, double tuck dismount stuck. 9.8
Nguyen (Stanford): Y1.5, tries to anticipate for the stick but takes a step back. 9.8
Volk (NCSU): Ray to shootover, bit of form on the last handstand, double lay with a little hop back. She stepped into the salute very quickly. 9.7
Gutierrez (Stanford): Y1.5, tidy in the air with a small hop forward. 9.85
Hadrick (NCSU): Commanding first handstand. Straddled jaeger to shootover, no problems. The camera work on the giants is making me motion sick. Massive full in dismount, stuck! 9.85
Roberts (Stanford): Y1.5, gets a great pop off the table, medium hop forward. 9.875
Harper (NCSU): Clear hip to Gienger, catches it a little close but works through it. Good bail. Double layout, stuck. 9.85
Reid (NCSU ex.): Maloney, huge backswing into the pak. Full in, stuck! A great option for NC State. 9.775
After 1: Stanford 49.100, NCSU 48.900
Things are close after one rotation! NCSU was feeling sticky on bars, but also had to count a pair of 9.700s. Stanford had tidy vaults, but couldn’t quite dial in on the landings. So far this meet is living up to the promise of a new ACC rivalry!
Rotation 2: Stanford UB, NCSU VT
Zultevicz (NCSU): Yfull, a bit of pike down. Takes a big hop back plus a step back. 9.625
Gutierrez (Stanford): Straddle jaeger to shoot over. Great toe point throughout the routine. Double front with a half, small hop back. 9.825
Adler (NCSU): Yfull, better form in the air and just a tiny hop back on landing. 9.775
Dugan (Stanford): Maloney, bail, keeps her legs glued together. Double layout, knees buckle slightly on landing and she takes a big step forward. 9.6, Stanford will want to drop that.
Negrete (NCSU): Yfull, lots of distance, and a hop back. 9.775
Neault (Stanford): Maloney, pak, tiny late on the pirouette, double tuck, great form and stuck! 9.85
The Stanford Stick Stick is here!
Hall (NCSU): Yfull, good body position in the air and a hop back. 9.8
Sorrento (Stanford): Maloney, pak with some leg separation. Double layout, a little pikey but stuck. 9.825
Thomas (NCSU): Yfull, so much power and takes a giant hop back, almost hops right off the mat. 9.725.
Roberts (Stanford): Pak, Van Leeuwen, double lay stuck! Such a clean routine. 9.925
Knight (NCSU): Front pike half, stuck cold. What a moment for NC State! 9.925
Soma (Stanford): Soma anchoring the bars lineup just feels correct. Maloney pak, slight loss of momentum but works through it. Van Leeuwen is lovely. Double layout, stuck with a chest dip and an arm wave. 9.75
Wright (NCSU ex.): Yfull, good body position and a tiny hop forward.
Chang (Stanford ex.): Maloney to pak, a little low on the last handstand, double lay with a hop back. Good reset routine for her. 9.75
After 2: Stanford 98.325, NCSU 97.900
Both teams picked up momentum in the second rotation. Knight’s 9.925 was massive for the Wolfpack, allowing them to hit the 49.000 mark on vault. Stanford’s bars are already scoring very well and there’s still room for improvement, this will be a lineup to watch for the Cardinal as the season progresses.
Rotation 3: Stanford BB, NCSU FX
Dean (Stanford): Easy full turn to start. Side aerial to loso, small check. Split jump to straddle quarter is secure. Round off 1.5 twist dismount, has to lean forward and fights for that stick. 9.775
Adler (NCSU): Opens with a massive Rudi to straddle jump. Back layout to one knee added in her choreography to get the back tumbling requirement. Front full to front lay to close, nice and clean. 9.8
Landry (Stanford): Double wolf turn, so calm. Bhs loso, small leg check. Split jump to split ring, front leg a little low on the split ring. Scale, holds it for an eternity, so gorgeous. Gainer pike dismount, stuck. 9.775
Hadrick (NCSU): Front lay to punch Rudi, nice height on the Rudi especially. Switch half to wolf full, not the most extension. L turn, makes it all the way around. Back 1.5 to front lay to close. 9.85
Roberts (Stanford): Very quick wolf 1.5. Switch leap, switch leap, good. Bhs loso, secure. Side aerial to switch jump is solid. Bhs gainer full with great height, stuck. 9.925
Zultevicz (NCSU): Back 2.5 twist is SO clean. Very short of split on her leaps. Double tuck, a little cowboyed but a beautifully controlled landing. 9.75
Neault (Stanford): Bhs bhs loso, I didn’t know it was possible for a triple series to look that calm and controlled. Beat jump, ring leap, very pretty. Full turn is good. RO 1.5 twist, definitively stuck. 9.95!
Thomas (NCSU): Double pike, great control on the landing. Hits oversplit on her leaps. Front lay to rudi, another great landing. Back 1.5 to front lay to close. 9.9
Soma (Stanford): Speedy full turn. Switch leap, split jump, shoulders not perfectly aligned but hides it well. Side aerial, no problem there. Bhs loso, small leg check. Switch half, short of split, beat jump. Gainer pike, stuck. 9.825 feels a little high.
Knight (NCSU): Punch front double full to open. Leaps are pretty in the air but the rotation is a little unclear. Underrotates her rudi, and has to connect to a front tuck instead of a layout. 9.775
Robinson (Stanford): Bhs loso is solid. Switch leap, switch jump, good. Hitch kick to side aerial to beat jump, fun connection series there. Confident full turn. Bit of moonwalk, because why not? RO 1.5 twist, stuck. 9.9
Negrete (NCSU): Huge double pike to open. Switch full is so clean. Front full, front lay, lovely. I love the way she embodies this routine, her performance quality absolutely lives up to the dramatic music. Double tuck to close, another great landing. 9.9
Carter (Stanford ex): Full turn is good. Bhs bhs loso, solid. Split 1/2, beat jump, straddle jump, doesn’t quite reach 180 on her splits. Front gainer full dismount, stuck. 9.7
Myers (NCSU ex): Double tuck with a bit of a bounce on her lunge. Switch ring to switch half to popa, a little low on the switch half. Front lay to rudi, good. 9.775
After 3: Stanford 147.650, NCSU 147.125
Stanford has more than put the beam issues of last week behind them. There were some nervy flight series sprinkled through that rotation, but three scores of 9.9+ more than made up for it. Like bars, Stanford is already scoring well on beam with the potential to go even higher. NCSU showcased some big tumbling on floor, highlighted by 9.9s from Thomas and Negrete.
Rotation 4: Stanford FX, NCSU BB
The crowd is LOUD in Maples Pavilion today!
Adler (NCSU): Bhs loso, some knees and a big leg check. Secure full turn. Switch leap, straddle quarter, nice toe point on both. Side aerial, no problems. Cat leap to switch side is good. Gainer full, stuck. 9.7
Dean (Stanford): Cool front handspring/roundoff thing to rudi. Tidy in her leaps. Back 1.5 to front full is good. Nice leadoff for Stanford. 9.85
Hall (NCSU): Bhs loso, a little lopsided in the air but no issues on landing. The tiniest of tiny bobbles on the full turn. Cat leap to switch half, no issues. Front aerial, breaks the connection with a small shoulder dip and doesn’t add the beat jump. Straddle side half with a lean forward. Gainer full, pikey but stuck. 9.675
Cluck (Stanford): Opens with a double layout, lands very short and has to take a big step forward, but keeps her knees off the floor. Back 1.5 to front pike, much cleaner. Leaps are a little labored but she gets them around. Double tuck to close, beautiful. 9.65
Thomas (NCSU): Full turn. Front aerial to bhs, very slow on the connection. Switch leap to straddle quarter is good. Side aerial to beat jump, no checks but another slow connection. Gainer full with a hop back. 9.75
Robinson (Stanford): Double tuck is through the rafters. Memmel turn, makes it around. Back 1.5 to front half to straddle jump, nice! Double pike, a bit of chest down on landing but hides it in the lunge. 9.925
Volk (NCSU): Very quick full turn. Bhs bhs loso, right to the end of the beam and no wobbles. Switch leap to some sort of undefined jump…I think it was meant to be a wolf jump? Scale is nice. Front toss, lands deep in the knees and has to take a couple steps to steady herself. Gainer full with a scoot back. 9.525.
Neault (Stanford): Whitney Houston music to start! Love. Double pike, hops into the lunge. Switch leap, switch ring full with a good ring position. Rudi, nice. Such great expressiveness in her choreography, the crowd loves it. Back 1.5 to front lay, some knees in the front lay. 9.8
Harper (NCSU): Beat jump to straddle 3/4, very short of split. Bhs loso, calm and secure. Cat leap to switch side, much split position. Good full turn. Front toss, attacks the beam so well on that skill. Tucked front full off the end to dismount, stuck. Great reset for NC State. 9.825
Walker (Stanford): Massive double pike to open the routine. Very bouncy in her leap series but good positions in the air. Punch front to double back, so high and a small slide in her lunge. 9.875
Negrete (NCSU): Full turn to start. Front aerial to back handspring, nice quick connection. Cat leap, switch half, beat jump, solid. Split jump, no problems. RO double twist with a hop back. 9.85.
Roberts (Stanford): Punch front to double back, small slide back on the lunge. Switch half to Popa, great extension on both. Rises up in her wolf turn. Front lay to Rudi, great landing. 9.925
Childs (NCSU ex.): Full turn, a little tentative. Bhs loso, solid. Switch leap to straddle quarter, good. Front toss, a little low on the landing. Bhs gainer full, stuck. 9.7
Carter (Stanford ex.): Punch rudi to straddle, a bit wild in the straddle but covers with a lunge. Switch 3/4 to straddle jump, great extension. Back 1.5 to front lay, a little underrotated but conceals it by dancing out of it.
FINAL: Stanford 197.025, NCSU 195.925
This meet might have started close, but Stanford extended its lead with each rotation to put up a massive 197.025. The Cardinal is asserting itself as a contender this season and I for one am here for it. NC State had some jitters on beam, but stil had excellent routines on all for events. Overall, a strong night for both teams, a brilliant home opener for Stanford, and great gymnastics all around!
