Originally a member of the class of 2025, five-star recruit Ly Bui graduated early and will join Florida this season, the Gators announced Friday.
“We are truly ecstatic to officially welcome Ly Bui to the Gators Gymnastics family,” head coach Jenny Rowland said at the time of her signing. “A fiercely competitive athlete, Ly embodies the perfect blend of grace and power, proving that great things come in small packages. We can’t wait to see her showcase her extraordinary talent in the O’Dome and inspire our fans with her passion for gymnastics and her dedication to the Gators through her exceptional performances.”
The addition adds depth to a talented Florida squad. She is particularly strong on bars, but her cleanliness overall will translate well to college gymnastics and give the Gators an additional option. Bui most recently competed as an elite, where she placed first on bars at the 2024 Core Hydration Classic as a senior. In 2023, she finished fourth on bars and seventh in the all-around as a junior.
Florida opens its season on January 10 when it hosts Michigan State, Nebraska, and Northern Illinois.

Is this an NIL situation? I can’t imagine Florida has an open scholarship spot for the season.
The NCAA allows 20 gymnasts to be on scholarship in the 2024-2025 year. Florida with the inclusion of Ly Bui has 19 gymnasts on the 2025 season roster.
It could be NIL, scholarship availability, and Ly watching two world class gymnasts go down to injury, Skye Blakely and Kayla DiCello, while deferring for the Paris Olympics so why not come for an early start when she is already eligible to graduate.
The 20-gymnast roster thing hasn’t been officially implemented yet. If it were, it wouldn’t be for the 2025 season.
Ly Bui is an outstanding addition to the 2025 roster. I expect she will contribute on vault and bars and could find her way into beam and floor performances throughout the season.
Florida’s Achilles heel in 2024 was bars and could have done better on floor at times. The 2025 Gators have addressed all weaknesses, including experience, from the 2024 team.
I expect Florida to be in Dallas, to make the National Finals, and to compete strongly for the national championship.
Ly is a lovely gymnast. I have been so impressed with her and am looking forward to watching her progress over the season.
