2025 GEC Potential Lineups

Jump to: Yale | Brown | West Chester | William & Mary | Cornell | Bridgeport | Southern Connecticut

Penn

Penn is a team on the rise: This squad has been on a steady upward trajectory over the last decade, driven by increasingly competitive recruiting and slow but steady technical improvements. The Quakers’ record book is unrecognizable from just four years ago, and another great recruiting class means the future looks bright in Philadelphia.

2024 Rewind

No. 49 overall | No. 1 at GECs | No. 49 in regular season

No. 49 is the highest ranking in the period for which Road to Nationals has historical records and likely the best in program history. Winning both the Ivy Classic and the GEC championship is a good result; though it’s arguably expected at this point, upsets have happened in recent memory.

All five team records are from 2022 or later and should be considered fair game this year as well. GEC Gymnast of the Year Skyelar Kerico could beat her own individual all-around record fairly easily; her 2024 season highs on each event add up to 39.500, and she’s only improving with time. The individual event records are tougher but not impossible.

The Big Picture

Penn has some routines to replace this year, but a remarkably balanced freshman class means depth won’t be a problem. You don’t need a crystal ball for Penn’s 2025 season: This is a great team that’s going to continue to be great. Expect another year of championships and records.

Yale

Yale seems to be on the rise again after sliding down the rankings since 2019, and while there are plenty of routines to replace this year, the Bulldogs have the talent to make it happen. Much like the past few years, expect Yale’s big challenges to be consistency and vault difficulty.

2024 Rewind

No. 58 overall | No. 2 at GECs | No. 58 in regular season

The Bulldogs are clearly in the top tier of the GEC alongside Penn and Brown. Second-place finishes at both the Ivy Classic and the GEC championship are results Yale should be proud of.

Team: 195.400 | AA: 39.350 | VT: 48.800/9.900 | UB: 49.175/9.950 | BB: 49.200/9.925 | FX: 49.500/9.950

Yale’s team program record was set at 195.400 in 2024, and the upcoming season could be another in which the Bulldogs take advantage of rising scores nationwide to make record-book moves. The vault record was also tied last year, and with a strong crop of freshmen on the event, that record might be in reach again.

The Big Picture

Yale graduates two routines per event from its postseason lineups, and between freshmen and injury returners, it should have no problem filling those gaps. This is a team that should hold steady and get similar results in 2025. Keep an eye on former four-star recruit Alexandra Forbes, who is an early contender for GEC Newcomer of the Year.

Brown

Brown’s recruiting has improved in recent years and the influx of talent has made the Bears a really fun and exciting team to watch. With lots of lineup spots available this year from graduated seniors, we’ll be watching to see if underclassmen can step up and continue the momentum.

2024 Rewind

2025 was a reasonably successful season for the Bears, with final ranking and conference finishes in line with recent years. Missing the final at USAG nationals is perhaps a little disappointing.

The big records are a reach for Brown: Last year’s squad didn’t get within a point of the team program record, and there wasn’t a regular all-arounder. The strongest candidate for a program record might be Julia Bedell beating her own floor record; a 9.975 doesn’t seem implausible for the rising senior. A 49.000 on vault also might be possible, with a good batch of vaults coming in from freshmen and those returning from injury. The beam record was set twice in 2024, and while senior leadership will be missed on that event, there’s definitely a possibility of keeping the momentum going.

The Big Picture

This team will see a lot of turnover in 2025, and that will probably impact consistency. The new talent is exciting, though, and there are also several impactful potential injury returns. Expect a transition period, but there will be lots of opportunities for freshmen to shine.

West Chester

West Chester had an exciting 2024 season, capped with a national championship on bars by then-junior Jordan Coleman. With two strong fifth-years returning and a deep freshman class, the Golden Rams can expect another great year in 2025.

2024 Rewind

West Chester has been very stable in the national rankings, finishing between No. 60 and No. 62 every year since 2017. Making the team final at USAGs is a great result for this team.

West Chester set new beam and floor team records last year and is now deeper on both events, so don’t be shocked if those records fall again. Jordan Coleman, the program record holder on bars, and Caroline Cascadden, who owns both the top beam and floor scores all-time, are both back for more this year. The Golden Rams never got very close to their team record in 2024, but there’s enough talent on this team where that could change.

The Big Picture

With only a handful of routines graduating and a big, talented freshman class coming in, West Chester looks deep and dangerous in 2025. The whole postseason vault lineup returns, as well as the majority of every other top six. If there’s an event that’s a little tighter in 2025, it’s bars, but even it isn’t likely to be a major issue. This should be a fun season for the Golden Rams.

William & Mary

The Tribe has been through a rollercoaster the past few years after being dropped and subsequently reinstated, carrying a small roster that had a difficult 2021, and then slowly rebuilding the past two years. This team loses Grace Costello, who transferred to Alaska, but only has two senior routines to replace. With a large returning roster, it should continue to build in 2025.

2024 Rewind

No. 63 overall | No. 5 at GECs | No. 63 in regular season

2024 was a fine season in the context of the past few years for the Tribe, but it’s a step behind where the team would like to be in relation to its overall history. A fifth-place GEC finish is a good position from which to build.

Catherine Bare’s 9.900 on bars last year came within striking distance of the record. It’s a realistic goal for her in 2025.

The Big Picture

The Tribe is putting together increasingly good gymnastics year-over-year, and 2025 should continue the trend. The 2024 group was consistent across all events in the second half of the year and can build on that momentum, with most of its contributors returning.

Cornell

Powerful and exciting, streaky and unpredictable, so reliably strong on floor and weak on bars that you can set your watch by it, Cornell is always a team to keep an eye on. As usual, this dynamic and dangerous team will keep fans guessing in 2025.

2024 Rewind

No. 64 overall | No. 7 at GECs | No. 60 in regular season | USAG Semifinals

Cornell’s 2024 results were a mixed bag. The Big Red’s good days were great, including a program record team score, but with scores on the rise nationwide and the GEC becoming increasingly competitive, it still wasn’t a great year in the rankings. This team was reliably at the top of the Ivy League in recent memory, so the standards are always high. That said, qualifying a full team to USAG nationals after missing out in 2023 is an important result.

Team: 195.025 | AA: 39.275 | VT: 49.025/9.900 | UB: 49.050/9.900 | BB: 49.075/9.925 | FX: 49.225/9.950

Cornell set several program records in 2024, including the big one. The new team program record of 195.025 is beatable in 2025. Sydney Beers could plausibly pass her own all- around program record, and with a career high of 9.925 on floor, she’s got a reasonable chance of an event record too. The individual beam record was set last year by two separate seniors, and while they won’t be back for another round, beam specialist Mikayla Burton is T-3 all- time heading into her own senior season. Finally, the team floor record of 49.225 was tied in 2024, and betting against Cornell floor is never a good idea.

The Big Picture

The most likely outcome for Cornell is a similar season to last year, but there’s cause for optimism. This class of freshmen has a lot of potential on bars, so expect a new-look lineup on that event. Beam, meanwhile, was a strength in 2024last year, but the newcomers might struggle to replace very significant losses there. Expect to see powerful and dynamic floor as usual, and watch out for 9.900-plus+ scores from individual stars like Sydney Beers and Mikayla Burton.

Bridgeport

Bridgeport enters 2025 after a season where consistency was difficult to find. This season, the Purple Knights lose zero routines thanks to Kieran Ross’ and Hannah Barry’s decision to return for their fifth and sixth years, respectively. Having that senior leadership, plus lots of additional routine options with the newcomers, should give Bridgeport a chance to qualify to its first USAG nationals (now known as WCGNICs) as a team since 2019.

2024 Rewind

No. 65 overall | No. 8 at GECs | No. 65 in regular season | USAG Semifinals

Bridgeport maintained a ranking in the mid 60s and finished in the bottom half of the GEC for the second year in a row. Despite not qualifying a full team to USAGs, several individuals qualified and put on a good showing that should motivate the Purple Knights for 2025.

As a freshman, Emily Hernandez was half a tenth away from matching the individual program record on bars. Sixth-year Hannah Barry has been a steady competitor for the Purple Knights and could also etch her name into the record books after scoring less than a tenth below individual record on beam.

The Big Picture

After coming close to losing their program only a few short years ago, the Purple Knights stand a chance of qualifying to WCGNICs as a team for the first time in Lorraine Galow’s tenure as head coach. They won’t want to lose sight of the conference championship, though. Rising to the top half of the GEC would be a great accomplishment.

Southern Connecticut

Southern Connecticut comes into 2025 with a new (but also not all that new) head coach in interim Jerry Nelson, the former longtime head coach of the program. It also loses some pretty significant contributors, including the program’s only 10.0 scorer in Gigi Mastellone. A talented group of freshmen, including two international athletes, could help bring the Owls back to prominence in 2025.

No. 66 overall | No. 4 at GECs | No. 66 in regular season

The Owls finished in the 60s for the seventh consecutive season after a tumultuous year. They used a late-season surge to finish fourth at GECs, an improvement from eighth in 2023.

Individual records could come tumbling down in 2025 with how close some came to falling in 2024. Look for fifth-year Hanna Zebdi to potentially break the vault record and senior Angel Lee to go for a new individual mark on beam after coming within half a tenth of doing so in 2024.

The Big Picture

As Nelson steps in on an interim basis, he will have to rely on experience—both his own and that of the gymnasts—to see success. Despite the changes and turmoil the program has faced, 2025 should be a good year for the Owls if they can stay healthy and consistent.
