There’s a lot that happens on the gymternet each week. So much so that it can be hard to keep track of it all. From training updates and COVID-year announcements to recruiting rumors and coaching news, we don’t blame you for missing some important points here and there.

That’s where we come in. Last Week in College Gym is your one-stop shop for all the important headlines from the previous week in college gymnastics. No matter if you’re taking a social media break, went on vacation, or just don’t have the capacity to follow every single gymnast, team, and fan, we have you covered.

Newsworthy Items

  • The Crimson Tide announced that Shania Adams will be returning for her fifth year. Adams competed on both bars and beam in almost every meet in the 2024 season. 
  • Also returning for a fifth year are Emily Leese of Rutgers and UCLA’s Frida Esparza.
  • Kent State head coach Brice Biggin has signed a two-year contract extension.
  • SCSU has announced that former head coach Jerry Nelson will act as interim head coach for the program.

Transfer News

  • Rising junior Renee Figueroa has announced her transfer from Rutgers to LIU.
  • Selena Harris officially signed with Florida to join their 2025 roster.

Training Updates

  • Incoming Georgia freshman Nyla Aquino is training a Tsuk double full on vault.  
  • Incoming George Washington freshman Zoe Safran is training a full-twisting double layout off bars and a tucked full-in on floor
  • Charlotte Gray (uncommitted ‘26) is training a Hindorff to bail handstand.
  • Amy Robins (uncommitted ‘25) is training a Yurchenko one and a half.
  • Incoming Oregon State freshman Guilianna Fiorillo is training a full-twisting double layout into the pit.
  • Incoming Brockport freshman Charlotte Raymond is working a double front off bars.
  • Incoming Iowa freshman Sydney Turner is training a couple of upgrades, including a Yurchenko one and a half and a front tuck through to double tuck on rod floor.
  • Rising Ohio State senior Kaitlyn Grimes is training a Yurchenko one and a half onto mats in the pit. 
  • Incoming Illinois freshman Chloe Cho is trying out a full-twisting Maloney on bars. Her classmate Marly Esteves is working a split-leg double layout bar dismount onto mats in the pit.
  • Rising Michigan State senior Genevieve Lebster is training two back handsprings to a layout on beam. 
  • Rising Washington junior Olivia Oppegard is training a piked Jaeger. 
  • Kailin Chio, incoming freshman for LSU, is training a roundoff back handspring layout stepout mount on beam.
