The Dismount: Week 7

Week seven was led by Oklahoma and LSU continuing to put up scores the rest of the top teams can’t quite match and followed by a crop of solid 197s from contenders. The Big Ten wrapped up in-conference duals, with Big Fives on the docket for week eight, and the ACC continued to be thrilling.

LSU Surged to No. 2 After Home Romp Over Auburn

Tigers versus Tigers is always a fun time. LSU used a 198.300 to pass California and to land at No. 2 in the rankings. LSU has yet to score a 198 on the road, so it has plenty of upside if it can manage that at the usually loosely-scored dual at Florida next week.

Aleah Finnegan was perfect on floor, and Olivia Dunne got the start over Kiya Johnson, who appears to be resting the event when the Tigers are comfortably ahead.

No. 1 Oklahoma Topped Then-No. 2 California at Metroplex…and No One Could Watch It

Have we complained about meets without streaming enough yet in 2024? Apparently not, because it’s still happening. The Golden Bears have positioned themselves as one of the biggest threats to a Sooner three-peat this year, and it’s unconscionable that we didn’t get to see the squads’ second head-to-head battle of the year.

As on Feb. 2, Oklahoma came away with the win. The Sooners posted a 198.300 to California’s 197.400; a sizable gap. What exactly happened? Who knows! Arkansas (196.800) and Washington (196.450) rounded out the quad. This meet has been around; it’s just ridiculous that it still isn’t streamed anywhere. At least it has live scoring now.

Audrey Davis still doesn’t have a 10 on bars.

Gators Top Mizzou to the Lou

Florida walked away from this quad with a healthy season-high 197.925. Missouri settled for second, nabbing a 197.475 and a Mara Titarsolej bars 10.0.

Illinois also scored a season-best, a 196.550 which it then topped at home on Sunday versus Minnesota with a 196.850, just shy of the Gophers’ 196.950. Lindenwood rounded out the quad, scoring its best away number of the year, a 194.825.

N.C. State Beats Clemson with First ACC 197 of 2024

The Wolfpack is good, notching a huge 197.575 at home versus Clemson. The Tigers hit 196 while counting two falls and without Lauren Rutherford, who was sick, which means all four ACC squads topped 196 this week. The conference meet should be thrilling; N.C. State made a case as the favorite, but a healthy Clemson is dangerous on a good day. It’s shaping up to be one of the most exciting conference titles.

Emily Shepard was stunning for the Wolfpack, scoring a program record 39.750 led by a 9.975 on bars.

Ohio State Puts it Together on the Road

The Buckeyes’ surge continues with a 197.125 at Iowa. The Hawkeyes put together a solid 196.075. Previously, Ohio State just couldn’t quite get over the 197 hump out of Covelli, so this should be a confidence-boosting performance heading into Big Fives in week eight.

Tory Vetter headlined for the Buckeyes with a 39.625.
