This weekend, Stanford made the trip up to Corvallis for a Pac-12 afternoon showdown at Gill Coliseum. Both sides are coming off home losses to conference opponents. Despite posting its best score of the season, Oregon State couldn’t hang with UCLA. Meanwhile, Stanford’s season-high 196.975 wasn’t enough to topple Arizona State in a tight back-and-forth affair.
As the host team, the Beavers are looking to pick up their first Pac-12 win of the season after losing to powerhouses California, Utah, and, most recently, UCLA. In last weekend’s losing effort, Jade Carey made her season debut in the all-around, while freshman Sophia Esposito competed on all four events for the first time as well, earning Pac-12 Newcomer of the Week for her performance. The two scored 39.625 and 39.525, respectively.
On the other hand, Stanford’s lone win in 2024 was over Pac-12 foe Washington. It almost picked up its second, falling by just one-tenth of a point to the Sun Devils last Friday. The season-best performance, highlighted by a season-high 49.200 on vault and 49-plus score on all four events for the first time this season, simply wasn’t enough. In the loss, Chloe Widner picked up a share of the bars title with a 9.95. Porsche Trinidad did the same on beam with a career-high 9.925.
Rotation 1: OSU Vault, Stanford Bars

Carey (OSU): Yurchenko full. Lots of power. Really high block off the table, with the flare. Small hop backward. 9.850
Widner (STAN): Tkatchev. Full pirouette to overshoot. Great handstands. Stuck double layout dismount. Great work in the anchor spot. 9.875
Chavez EXH (OSU): Yurchenko full. Piked down quite a bit. 9.700

After 1: Oregon State 48.975, Stanford 49.175
Decent rotation for both sides. Neither team counted a fall, but Oregon State wasn’t quite getting the vault landings they would have liked. Meanwhile, Stanford looked really consistent going through bars. Scores seem maybe just a little tight so both teams will need to focus in on the details.
Rotation 2: Stanford Vault, OSU Bars
Dean (STAN): Yurchenko full. Chest was maybe a little low on the landing. Has to take a step to the side on the landing, but not a bad vault. 9.775
Esposito (OSU): Hits first handtsand. Good releases. Overshoot. Back to high bar and hits another great handstand. Double tuck dismount almost sticks it but not quite. 9.825
Zeng (STAN): Yurchenko full. Soft in the knees on the landing, but good distance back from the table. Takes a hop back on the landing, but good form throughout. 9.775
Briones (OSU): Shaposh to Pak Salto, legs come apart. Decent handstands. Double layout, takes a hop backward on the landing, but I loved the toe point and straight legs. 9.800
Neault (STAN): Yurchenko full-on pike off. Nice landing and good distance from the table as well. 9.700
DeVries (OSU): Shaposh. Pak Salto, legs just barely come apart. Hitting her handstands. Double layout dismount with a nice stick on the landing. 9.875
Gutierrez (STAN): Yurchenko 1.5. Stuck phenomenally. Leg separation coming off the springboard, but does a wonderful job on the landing. Career-high 9.950
McMIllan (OSU): Shaposh, back down with bail to handstand. Double layout dismount, lands too low, and has to hop forward. 9.700
Nguyen (STAN): Yurchenko 1.5. Hops in place on the landing, nice form off the table with great height and distance. 9.850
Thompson (OSU): Short on first handstand. Shaposh to Pak Salto, legs stuck together. Hits the next handstand. Stuck double layout dismount. Gorgeous. 9.900
Carey (OSU): Shaposh to full twisting Pak Salto, really floaty. Shaposh half with a lot of height. Full-twisting double tuck, hop on the landing, but a really great routine from start to finish. 9.950
Beeman EXH (OSU): Pike Jaeger, Pak Salto to low bar. Stalder, double tuck dismount. Really different routine than all the other ones we’ve seen. 9.725
Caso EXH (OSU): Shaposh to Pak Salto, legs nice and together. Shaposh half. Falls trying to complete a full pirouette. Double tuck dismount. Low chest and steps forward out of it. 9.100
After 2: OSU 98.325, Stanford 98.225
Oddly, Stanford went five up, five count, so they kept Neault’s 9.700. The Beavers manage to jump in front with their really good bars rotation. Landings were ten times better in this rotation. Both teams were getting sticks and competing with really nice form. I’m excited to see if this meet stays close in the back half with beam and floor.
Rotation 3: OSU Beam, Stanford Floor
Esposito (OSU): Switch leap, flutter split jump, LOSO. I loved that construction and execution. BHS LOSO. RO double-twisting layout. Stuck. That routine was gorgeous. Fantastic way to lead off. 9.850
Dean (STAN): Some issues finding her floor music it looks like. Third time’s a charm. Love the energy. Great first pass. Switch full leap. Back 1.5 to front full on second pass. Tour jete half, straddle full. 9.825
Thompson (OSU): Very calming music during her routine. BHS LOSO, balance check. Switch leap, straddle 1/4. Side somi, nice. RO 1.5 dismount hops forward out of it, but a good follow-up routine. 9.750
Landry (STAN): I really like her music. Back 1.5 to front layout. Switch leap, switch ring. Having a lot of fun with her routine. Coach is killing it with her on the sidelines. Double tuck hops forward slightly but good power. 9.775
Buckner (OSU): Missed her mount. BHS LOSO, lots of height. split jump, stag jump, nicely done. More calming music, nice guitar. Side aerial. BHS 1.5 stuck. And a huge celebration from her. 9.900
Cluck (STAN): Double layout on the first pass, gorgeous. 1.5 to front pike. Really nice tumbling. Nice 180 in her leap series. Double tuck, with a stuck landing. Incredible height. 9.800
McMillan (OSU): Front toss, BHS splashdown. All the stars by SZA is 10/10 music choice. Gorgeous leaps. Split jump, ring jump. Good pointed toes. Gainer full dismount off the side, stuck. Great routine. 9.900
Zeng (STAN): Mario routine, how fun! Front layout to front 1.5. Very enjoyable to watch. Lots of energy in her movements. Double tuck with a controlled step backward. Just a little short on the leaps. 9.875

Carey (OSU): Front aerial, straddle jump. Really really pretty. BHS LOSO gorgeous legs again. Switch leap, switch half. Gainer full, hops backward just a bit on the landing. Wonderful routine. 9.925
Nguyen (STAN): Double layout with so much power. Huge lunge backward on the landing. Nice leaps. Beautiful second pass. Reall well done routine. 9.900
Garcia EXH (OSU): Missed most of her routine. Frank Ocean, what a way to close the rotation. Falls on her leap series. RO 1.5, good landing. 9.100
After 3: OSU 147.650, Stanford 147.525
Oregon State stays in front and actually extends their lead by just a little bit more. Lots of fun routines from Stanford, but just couldn’t quite match Oregon State’s performance on beam. The Beavers looked really clean top to bottom in the lineup. Only one event left, and this meet is still really tight. Either team could walk away with a win here. It would be the Beavers’ first if they can hold on.
Rotation 4: Stanford Beam, OSU Floor
Dean (STAN): Caught the back half. Wobbles at the end of her series. Nice jump series. RO 1.5 dismount. Has to fight, but gets the stick. 9.800
Garcia (OSU): Back 1.5 to front layout, clean. Switch straddle full, lots of height. Double tuck in the final pass. Too much juice, slides that front foot way back on the landing, but a really solid routine. 9.900
Nguyen (STAN): Layout LOSO series. Strong leaps. Straddle jump, beat jump. RO double-twisting layout dismount. 9.825
Thompson (OSU): Back 1.5 to fonrt layout. Tour jete full. Double pike, good landing. Short of 180 on final leap series. Really strong tumbling. 9.850
Carter (STAN): Mounts by jumping into the splits. BHS BHS LOSO, slight wobble. Straddle half, beat jump. RO 1.5 dismount, tiny hop to maintain her balance. 9.800
Miller (OSU): Back 1.5 to front layout. Good 180 in leaps. Double tuck, great control and great landing. Switch half, straddle half. Gorgeous legs and feet. 9.875
Robinson (STAN): BHS LOSO, balance check, feet were flexed. Switch leap, split jump done well. Side aerial to beat jump. Moonwalks on the beam. RO 1.5 sticks it and holds the landing. Good finish. 9.800
Esposito (OSU): I like the trumpets to start the music. Front layout, front 1.5. Switch straddle to switch half. RO double pike, got enough power. Really clean tumbling. 9.900
Neault (STAN): BHS BHS LOSO. Switch leap, split jump, beautiful 180. Front aerial, gorgeous lines. RO 1.5 dismout, hop forward on the landing.
Young (OSU): Super high energy. Huge double pike to open. Double tuck with great power again. Switch leap, tour jete ring. Front layout to front full, steps across her body, but nice routine. 9.850
Trinidad (STAN): BHS LOSO, too much on it and falls. Gorgeous form throughout. Split jump, ring jump. Great split. Front aerial, lots of air. BHS gainer full off the side dismount. Not quite a stick. 9.175
Carey (OSU): Front layout through to massive double pike. Switch half, straddle half, great air on the leaps. Incredibly high double tuck on the last pass. Phenomenal routine. 9.925
Chavez EXH (OSU): Double pike, beautiful control and great landing. Tour jete half, wolf jump. Back 1.5 to front layout. Love Little Mix. Double tuck, really quick rotation. Really nice routine in an exhibition capacity. 9.800
Final: Oregon State 197.100, Stanford 196.600
Great meet from both teams. It was close all the way through until the final rotation. Oregon State was phenomenal on floor and high a really high quality of performance. The Beavers get their first Pac-12 Conference win of the season. The Cardinal may have lost but it comes away with a solid road score at Gill Coliseum, nothing to hang their heads about.
VT: Anapaula Gutierrez, 9.950
UB: Jade Carey, 9.950
BB: Jade Carey, 9.925
FX: Jade Carey, 9.925
AA: Jade Carey, 39.650
