California’s senior night quad is here, with the Golden Bears facing off against Arizona as well as a duo of MPSF teams in UC Davis and Sacramento State. This meet should be an exciting end to the regular season and also an important opportunity to for these teams to earn important scores for NQS. California’s ability to increase its NQS is limited, and after a quad on Friday, we may see the Golden Bears use some of its depth to rest a few of its all arounders. Regardless, watch out for Mya Lauzon and Andi Li who have been having stellar seasons this far.
Arizona has a chance to drop a low 196 in this meet and increase its chances of not being a part of the play in meets as well as cement its regional placement. Look out for Malia Hargrove to lead the way for the Wildcats. UC Davis is clinging on to its regionals hopes, and needs to keep building on the moment from the last few weeks. Keanna Abraham and Amelia Moneymaker will be highlights, especially on floor and vault. Last, but certainly not least, Sacramento State is looking to continue building momentum going towards MPSF Championships after scoring another 195 last weekend. Amber Koeth tied school records on bars and beam last week with a pair of 9.950s, so watch out for her to be a standout for the Hornets.
Touch warmups are just about over, and it looks like Cla

After 1: UC Davis 49.275, California 49.225, Arizona 49.125, Sacramento State 48.775
Well after one, Cal and UC Davis are tied, an unexpected, but very exiting result. California looked a bit tired on vault and did not have the landing control on its 1.5s to score into the mid 49s. UC Davis looked really crisp on beam with Otsu being a real highlight. Arizoan was solid on bars with Alysen Fears setting a carreer high thanks to stunning handstand work. Sac State was solid on floor, but definitely got hit hard on some leap positions.
Score update: UC Davis’s rotation score got bumped to 49.275
Rotation 2: Sac State VT, California UB, Arizona BB, UC Davis FX
Desouza (UB): Almost arches over her firt handstand. Piked Jaeger, overshoot, flexed feet. Good final handstand, FTDT with a small hop
Fitzgerald (VT): Yurchenko, full on tuck off. Nice height, just a little off center and a step back
Frazier (UB): Great first handstand. Maloney, Pak is clean. Obstructed dismount view, but it looks like the double layout was stuck.
Tavenner (VT): yfull with a hop, solid distance
Perea UB): Great first handstand. Nice legs together on her Pak. Van Leeuwen is clean. Another pristine handstand, stuck double layout. Fantastic 9.975
Moneymaker (FX): Front tuck thru to double pile. Switch half, wolf jump full, distinct landing positions. Rudi, messy landing position. Double tuck with solid control.
Li (BB): Clean handstand, Pak and Van Leeuwen are solid. Excellent giant full to a stuck double tuck. The Bears are rolling on bars, 9.975
Morgenthaler (VT): Yurchenko 1.5, lands a little short with a hop back and to the side
Williams (UB): Great first handstand. Maloney to Pak, excellent half pirouette. Stuck double layout, chest just a smidge forward
Mueller (BB): Side aerial, loso very secure. Love how she holds the releve after her full turn. Switch leap, straddle jump. Back 1.5 with a hop
Cessario (UB): Straddled Jaeger, overshoot is clean. Slightly short final handstand, double layout with two steps.
Abraham (FX): Massive double layout to open, nice control. Front lay, front full well done. High double tuck to finish. Great routine.
Hargrove (BB): Bhs, loso, loso, super small hip correction. Split jump, sheep jump, missing some head release on the split jump. Back 1.5 is stuck with a lean forward to hold the stick.
Ray (FX): Front tuck through to double tuck, great amplitude. Tour jete half, split full, popa, landing positions were a little indistinct. Double pike to finish, quick step back but controls it well.
After 2: California 98.875, UC Davis 98.625, Arizona 98.375, Sac State 97.450
After a stellar bar rotation, the Golden Bears took the lead. Perea’s and Li’s 9.975 routines were truly stellar, with excellent leg form on their transitions between the bars. UC Davis looked good on floor, scoring a solid 49.350 with Ray and Abraham delivering 9.9s. Arizona looked solid on beam, but will want to stick a few more dismounts to really maximize that score. Sac State was okay on vault, but had quite a few vaults land short today.
Rotation 3: UC Davis VT, Sac State UB, California BB, Arizona FX
Desouza (BB): Cat leap, front aerial solid. Bhs, loso is secure. Beat jump, sheep jump, lacking some amplitude. Stuck 1.5 dismount
Pires (VT): Yurchenko full on, pike off with a step. Gets really good block off the table on that.
Moneymaker (VT): Yfull, hop backwards, some piking throughout
Williams (BB): Wolf double full, just a little out control. Front aerial, split jump. Great extension on the bhs, loso. Switch leap is solid. Bhs, gainer full is stuck.
Otsu (VT): Omelianchek with a step, nice form and straight legs in her pike position
Ray (VT): Yurchenko half on, front tuck full off, stuck! Excellent! 9.925
Li (BB): Bhs, loso is secure. Great full turn. Leaps are solid. Gainer tuck full is stuck.
Mueller (FX): Nice double pike to open, some flexed feet, Switch side, popa, nice 180s. Back 1.5, front lay, missing some amplitude on the front lay. Double tuck with a step forward
Abraham (VT): Yurchenko 1.5 with a step forward, very clean in the air
Frazier (BB): Side aerial, loso is well connected. Switch ring, split jump, one the best ring positions in NCAA. Stuck 1.5 dismount
Lauzon (BB): Gorgeous choreography on the mount. Wolf turn is fine. Bhs, bhs, loso, right on, great extension. Switch leap, split jump nice 180s. Double full, her body rises to absorb the landing, but it doesn’t look like she took a step. Regardless, amazing amplitude on that dismount. 10.000!
Perea (BB): Wolf double full. Solid series. Switch leap, split jump, beat jump. Side somi, tucked 1.5. Great.
Hargrove (FX): Stuck FTDT, chest was just a little bit forwards. Whip half, front full not a ton of amplitude on either, but excellent control. Double tuck to close, solid control.
After 3: California 148.700, UC Davis 147.850, Arizona 147.450, Sac State 145.675
Wow! So California’s 49.825 on beam is a program high and the second highest beam score in NCAA history. So even after a weak vault rotation, the Golden Bears are still on 198 pace. UC Davis posted a solid 49.225 on vault, with Ray scoring a 9.925 for a fantastic stuck vault. Arizona had to count a few 9.7s on floor that keep its rotation total down, but is still above 196 pace. Lastly, Sac State struggled with handstands and dismounts landings that kept its routines stuck in the 9.6s.
Okay, it looks like UC Davis will still be in regionals contention if it can hit bars for at least a 48.4, definitely something to watch for in this last rotation. That said, my main focus will be bars and floor to start this rotation.
Rotation 4: Arizona VT, UC Davis UB, Sac State BB, California FX
Desouza (FX): Rudi, loso, good amplitude. Popa, wolf full, a little bit messy. Back 1.5, front full, great landing control.
Herry (VT): yfull with a small hop, some leg separation on the block as well.
Moneymaker (UB): Stunning first handstand. Maloney to bail, leg separation on both. Another good handstand, double layout to finish.
Perea (FX): Double pike, loses control and takes a significant slide backwards. Split full, wolf full, wolf full. Back 1.5, front lay, messy and lacking height on the front layout.
Hargrove (VT): Yurchenko 1.5 with a big hop forward
Castles (VT): yfull with a small hop in place, great form throughout that vault
Clagg (UB): Great height on the Tkatchev, just some flexed feet. Good handstand, a little short on the bail. Final handstand is, hit, double layout is stuck with an arm swing
Lutrel (BB): Bhs, loso is secure. Switch leap, split 3/4, little short of split on the latter. Side aerial. Side aerial 1.5 with a stick. Solid.
Fitzgerald (UB): Straddled Jaeger, overshoot, some flexed feet and loose form throughout. Great final handstand, double layout with two big steps back.
Li (FX): Front double full, nice control and leg form. Front lay, front front full, a small stumble. Switch leap, switch ring half to finish.
Lauzon (FX): Front double full, punch front, excellent form and control. Switch side, popa, good splits. Back 1.5, front full, excellent control.
Koeth (UB): Bhs, loso, bhs with a large balance check. Switch leap, split jump is solid. Stuck gainer full
Frazier (FX): Double layout to open, nice control. Ring jump is very pretty. Switch ring, switch half, sissone, good splits on all three. Front tuck through to double tuck, just a little short and takes a step forward.
FINAL: California 198.275, Arizona 196.525, UC Davis 196.425, Sacramento State 194.875
VT: Megan Ray 9.925
UB: Andi Li, Gabby Perea 9.975
BB: Mya Lauzon 10.000
FX: Mya Lauzon 9.950
AA: Andi Li, Madelyn Williams 39.625
