Nastia Liukin Cup Series: Week 2

This year’s Nastia Liukin Cup Series will be comprised of 20 meets, each of which will qualify one senior gymnast (aged 16 or older) and one junior (15 or younger) to the 13th Nastia Liukin Cup in Frisco, Texas on Feb. 27.

This week’s series included six meets: the Tampa Bay Turners Invitational, Chow’s Winter Classic, the Coaches Spectacular, the Star Struck Invitational, the Kim Zmeskal’s Texas Prime Meet and the Lady Luck Invitational.

Last week’s qualifiers were Selena Harris and Jamison Sears (seniors) and Jayla Hang and Carly Weinberg (juniors).

Tampa Bay Turners Invitational

Winner (senior division): Abigayle Martin

Winner (junior division): Jasmine Cawley

Junior Jasmine Cawley posted the highest score of the day and became the first 2022 NLC qualifier, together with Avery Neff, to score over 39 in the all-around. Her scores on vault, bars and floor were career highs. Arizona commit Abigayle Martin, who finished fourth in the all-around last year at nationals, notched the senior qualification with a solid performance that included a 9.800 on vault.

The competition also featured two 10.0s on vault by L10 national champion Danielle Ferris and L10 national runner-up Alexia Mouyenga, as well as a 9.975 by Mallory Gregory.

Chow’s Winter Classic

Winner (junior division): Greta Krob

Molly Peterson in the senior competition topped the all-around standings with a solid performance on all four events, which included a 9.700 on vault for a beautiful Yurchenko full. Greta Krob, in her very first competition as a level 10, qualified in the junior ranks. Her highest score of the day came on bars with a 9.375.

Coaches Spectacular

Winner (senior division): Lucie Kirchner

Winner (junior division): Bailey Stroud

Senior Lucie Kirchner and junior Bailey Stroud, both from JPAC, topped the leaderboard and were separated by just 0.050 points. Stroud, who scored a 10.0 on bars last year, posted a 9.700 on her pet event—her highest score on the night. Kirchner’s highest score came on vault for a nearly stuck Yurchenko half. She was also especially happy with her floor routine, where she debuted a triple twist.

Georgia commit Jaydah Battle, who narrowly missed out on qualification last week, topped the standings with a solid overall performance. She was delighted with her bar routine, which has caused her some trouble in the past. Elyse Wenner won the junior competition and posted a 9.900 on vault for a high and tight Yurchenko full.

Kim Zmeskal’s Texas Prime Meet

Winner (junior division): Kamila Pawlak

Arkansas signee Morgan Price and 2025 graduate Kamila Pawlak, who both qualified to the NLC for the first time last year, topped the standings in their respective categories. Both of their highest scores came on floor. Price posted a 9.800 for a routine that includes a big 2.5 twist, while Pawlak, who scored a 9.650, opened her routine with a beautiful full-twisting double pike.

2024 graduate superstar Avery Neff qualified in the senior ranks with a huge 39.225 after missing out on qualification to a tie to Selena Harris last week. Neff, who’s one of the favorites to win the NLC after finishing second in the junior division last year, stuck her Yurchenko 1.5 for the second week in a row for a near-perfect 9.975. Lillian Jennejohn, in the class of 2025, who also competed at the NLC as a junior last year, notched the junior qualification with a solid performance, topped by a 9.575 on floor.
