The NCGA Dismount: Week 1

This first week of January typically includes less NCGA action. Since COVID protocols forced the Hamline at UW-Eau Claire meet to be canceled, this week’s NCGA competition only featured one meet. UW-La Crosse faced Gustavus Adolphus at home. These two teams took advantage of this extra week of competition by putting up strong opening scores. In fact, Gustavus scored its second-highest season-opening score of program history with a 181.975. This is only the beginning. The competition level will only go up from here.

UW-La Crosse

UW-La Crosse brought big school energy with its 2022 intro video. The voiceovers combined with videos of the skills that draw people to watch the Eagles’ meets made for an intro that Division III gymnastics has yet to see.

Performance of the Week

Rachel Chesley, Vault, 9.650

Chesley casually stepped into her first ever college lineup and walked away with a win. She competes a beautiful Yurchenko half with lines you can’t miss. We don’t have video, but click the hyperlink above to see an example of what Chesley is capable of on the event. 

Under the Radar Athlete of the Week

Sophia Redding, Bars, 9.600

Senior Sophia Redding increased her career high by 0.25 this weekend. If you’ve ever seen Redding’s dynamic swinging style and smooth Maloney to overshoot connection, you’d wonder what took the judges so long to give this athlete a 9.600.
