About Deana

Sheremeta is a two-time J.O. nationals qualifier (2018 and 2019). She tied for fourth place on floor in 2018 (Junior B) and was eighth in 2019 (Junior D). Sheremeta is the 2018 New York state and Region 6 champion on floor, the 2019 state and regional champion on beam and the 2018 and 2019 regional silver medalist in the all around. Her older sister Alisa is a gymnast at Missouri.

What She Brings to George Washington

Vault

  • Skill: Yurchenko layout
  • Results: third place at 2020 Magical Classic (career high)
  • Margin of Improvement: Sheremeta’s vault is slightly piked in the air but solid on the landing. It is only a 9.750 start value in college, though. She is training both a Yurchenko layout full and a tucked Yurchenko full.
  • Impact on the Team: GW did pretty well on vault in 2020 but did not have six 9.950 start values in its lineup. If Sheremeta upgrades, she can challenge for a lineup spot.

Uneven Bars

  • Skills: Deltchev, Pak salto, double tuck dismount
  • Results: second place at the 2020 Little Boston Invitational (career high)
  • Margin of Improvement: Sheremeta is a good bar worker. She recently added the rare Deltchev to her routine, making it more competitive and unique. She still needs to upgrade her dismount to achieve a 10.0 start value in college, and could work on her handstands a bit more.
  • Impact on the Team: GW did well on bars in 2020, though it failed to break into the 9.9s. Sheremeta will be expected to contribute from the start and to post high scores.

Balance Beam

  • Skills: pressed handstand mount, leap jump to beat jump, BHS + LOSO, switch leap to leap jump, front aerial, side aerial, 1.5 wolf turn, split leap to switch leap half, 1.5 twist dismount
  • Results: 2019 New York state and Region 6 champion
  • Margin of Improvement: Sheremeta is an excellent beam worker. Her routine is difficult, and her leaps are particularly impressive. The dismount is the only skill that still needs some improvement.
  • Impact on the Team: GW’s two best beam workers, who scored 9.900s in 2020, will have graduated once Sheremeta gets to college. She has the potential to match their scores.

Floor Exercise

  • Skills: front double twist, roundoff + whip + 1.5 twist, Rudi
  • Results: 2018 New York state and Region 6 champion
  • Margin of Improvement: Sheremeta is a dynamic floor worker and an elegant dancer. She still has plenty of time to polish her landings and leaps a bit more, but her routine is impressive.
  • Impact on the Team: Hannah Cohen and Cydney Crasa, who both scored 9.900s in 2020, have graduated. GW is expected to replace their scores and Sheremeta has the potential to do so once she arrives in D.C.
