The Big Storyline: Illinois fell short on its signature event, beam, to give this meet to Iowa after a close battle. A wobble there from Shaylah Scott and a fall from the recently cruising Mallory Mizuki on bars were dark spots for the Illini. Regardless, though, they’re showing requisite promise as the postseason looms. Iowa had a good day at home, with Clair Kaji tying her career high on floor in a show-stopping final home performance.

Implications: Iowa will look to move up a spot or two after redeeming itself from a tough performance last week. Illinois looks poised to remain close to where it is now.

Current Rankings: No. 19 Illinois at No. 17 Iowa

Why You Should Clear Space on Your DVR: Verrrry verrrrry interesting. Here we have the two teams most readily positioned to sneak up and surprise Minnesota or Michigan if they make any major mistakes at the conference championship. Both Illinois and Iowa have been steady this year: Illinois has improved on its previous outing in all but one meet, and Iowa has had only one miss all year. Both teams nabbed spots in the conference championship headline session at Big Fives and are capable of a mid-196. Illinois would love to drop a 196.075 from its NQS, and Iowa will want to at least top its second-best home score, a 196.775. That said, the Hawkeyes almost certainly have a 197 in the back of their minds on senior night. Speaking of, will we see a Clair Kaji 10.0?

You Can Fast Forward, but not Through This: Iowa is the No. 2 floor team in the country going into this one. We talk about its choreography a lot, but it has top-notch tumbling, too. Bridget Killian does an outstanding triple full and JerQuavia Henderson has a massive full-in. Illinois will be at its peak in the fourth rotation, too. The Illini are No. 15 on beam, headlined by Shaylah Scott and Mia Takekawa.

The event is finished.
