2025 Non-Regionals East Teams Potential Lineups

Jump to: North Carolina | Rutgers | New Hampshire | Temple | West Virginia | LIU

Pittsburgh

Year two of Casey Jo MacPherson’s head coaching career will be her opportunity to make a statement after her debut season went par for the course. Via freshmen and the transfer portal, the Panthers brought in plenty of talent to compensate for what was lost and should contend for a regionals appearance.

2024 Rewind

No. 41 overall | No. 3 at ACCs | No. 41 in regular season

While Pittsburgh’s road to an ACC title only gets more challenging with the conference’s expansion this season, its odds for a postseason berth are far better than last season. The Panthers project to be on bubble watch come March, a situation they haven’t finished on the right side of since 2018.

While not a school record, fifth-year Jah’Liyah Bedminster has recorded a perfect 9.950 on vault in her career for her Yurchenko full. She could get sticky feet once again, as could Jordyn Ewing on floor, who was in the 9.9s on multiple occasions last season.

The Big Picture

Expectations are rising for the Panthers as they continue to add talent in the right places—specifically former four-star recruit Meika Lee, who shines on beam and can contend for a role as an all-arounder. If Pittsburgh can iron out its biggest issue from 2024—beam consistency—snagging one of those final spots at regionals is well within reach to give this program a much-needed momentum swing.

North Carolina

After gaining far more talent than it lost, North Carolina has the opportunity to turn things around in 2025 after the program’s final ranking has steadily declined the last few seasons. Big hitters like Lali Dekanoidze and Isabelle Schaefer return after another regionals appearance and should pair well alongside a duo of former four-star recruit freshmen.

2024 Rewind

No. 42 overall | No. 3 at ACCs | No. 42 in regular season

The Tar Heels missed regionals for the first time in two years and would love to reverse course on that trend immediately to return to a top-40 ranking. In a newly expanded ACC, getting back to third in the conference will require work, as both conference rookies, California and Stanford, project to finish ahead.

Although her season-best in 2024 was only a 9.925, current individual bars record holder Dekanoidze will once again challenge for the first perfect mark of her career with her stellar swing. It would be North Carolina’s first 10 on the event as well.

The Big Picture

With just a few routines to replace and two rookies—Jojo Valahovic and TaeLyn Canty—ready to contribute immediately, the Tar Heels have all the pieces necessary to take head coach Danna Durante off the hot seat. Depth will be North Carolina’s biggest asset, so success will come from finding the most consistent six on every event.

Rutgers

Rutgers is a team that tends to carry an enormous roster, struggle with injuries, and just not quite put the pieces together to advance within the Big Ten. A huge number of gymnasts retired or transferred in 2024 amid rumors of misconduct by head coach Umme Salim-Beasley. She remains at the helm for 2025, as the Scarlet Knights look to build consistency and enter the top 40.

2024 Rewind

Bars in particular continued to be a struggle in 2024. The Scarlet Knights never found consistency there and remained mired in the 9.7s and below. They managed to top a floundering Iowa, which was dealing with leadership challenges of its own, to finish ninth at Big Tens. Floor was a highlight.

Leese is always a threat to take down the vault record, and the team vault total could be topped as well with her back at full health.

The Big Picture

It’s hard to guess where Rutgers will emerge in the 2025 picture, partially because it has been so inconsistent in recent memory. At their best, the Scarlet Knights put together beautiful gymnastics, but it rarely happens altogether in one meet. Former four-star recruit Donna Uhlenberg should add to the scoring potential on vault and floor while former three-star Delaney Adrian brings potential to bars and beam. Her fellow former three-star Keeley Smith is a bars standout. If the new talent can stabilize lineups, Rutgers should take a step forward in 2025.

New Hampshire

Expect a new-look New Hampshire this year: More than half of the Wildcats’ postseason lineup graduated. For a team that has languished in the rankings in recent history, that might not be such a bad thing. With lots of freshman talent to play with, is 2025 the beginning of the rebuild in Durham?

2024 Rewind

No. 48 is New Hampshire’s lowest finish in at least 20 years. Remember when this team used to be a regionals stalwart? Finishing second at EAGLs with a season high was a highlight.

Last year’s squad got close to the team bars record, but most of that lineup has graduated. Many of these records will be tough to beat this year.

The Big Picture

New Hampshire faces a steep climb back to regionals contention with so many graduated routines to replace. A talented freshman class, led by former four-star recruit Cléante Théorêt, might be up for the challenge. Don’t expect a miracle in 2025, but this season could be the beginning of a turnaround.

Temple

Since qualifying to regionals in 2021, Temple has slid rapidly back down the rankings. This year, the Owls will be hoping that aggressive recruiting and a big-name transfer, former Talladega star Kyrstin Johnson, will help them get their momentum back.

2024 Rewind

No. 52 overall | No. 4 at EAGLs | No. 52 in regular season

This is not where Temple wants to be. Since making regionals in 2021, the Owls have slid back down the rankings each successive year. Consistency has been an obstacle, but there’s definitely plenty of returning talent.

The floor program record was set last year, and with the whole floor lineup back plus strong newcomers, that’s still the most likely spot for a program record in 2025.

The Big Picture

It’s hard to know what to make of Temple heading into 2025. A huge roster is always a luxury in some ways, but depth is no guarantee of consistency. Even with so many athletes, bars might be a little tight this year. Expect continued excellence on floor, of course.

West Virginia

West Virginia found itself on the outside looking in of the regionals picture in 2024. Some meets the Mountaineers struggled to put up six healthy gymnasts up on certain events. When a top six was established, it wouldn’t remain consistent week to week. But with a new year comes a fresh start, and it’s exactly what the Mountaineers need.  West Virginia is back, healthy, and ready to prove that last year was a fluke and it’s more than capable of returning to regionals as a team.

2024 Rewind

No. 53 overall | No. 5 at Big 12s | No. 53 in regular season

The Mountaineers missed the postseason for only the second time in head coach Jason Butts’ tenure. Heading into 2025, they will look to rebound and not add a third miss to his resume.

Heading into her sophomore season, Jurnee Lane had the highest scores on beam and floor at 9.900 and 9.925, respectively. If she continues on that trajectory, she could join the ranks of Mountaineer greats and even reach perfection. Look for junior Emma Wehry to also make a push toward 10s.

The Big Picture

Missing regionals was a big surprise for a team like West Virginia, but it has the pieces to return in 2025. Anna Leigh and Carlee Nelson returning to full strength will give the Mountaineers more options and experience in its lineups. The freshmen have the skills and difficulty to challenge for roles in the top six, as well as provide much needed depth options. While a Big 12 conference title is not entirely out of the realm of possibility, the main goal will be getting back to regionals.

LIU

It’s impossible to discuss LIU without first acknowledging what the team went through under since-replaced head coach Randy Lane. Lane and his assistant Olivia Courtney were accused of emotional abuse by many team members, and gymnasts leaving the roster in droves paint a picture. This roster is small, with a large freshman contingent, and will be under the direction of first-time head coach Taylor Colwell. It is sure to be a rebuilding year, and Brisa Carraro is poised to lead the way.

2024 Rewind
