Utah State
Utah State has had a couple of tough seasons following a major transfer exodus to Clemson in the 2022-23 offseason. Head coach Kristin White has recruited aggressively since the beginning of her tenure in Logan, and this year it might start to pay off.
2024 Rewind
No. 45 overall | No. 2 at Mountain West | No. 45 in regular season
No. 45 isn’t a great final ranking, but the Aggies improved through 2024. A season high of 196.500 at the Mountain West championship meet, good for second place, is a really excellent result for this team.

Most of the current records have existed for a while and would be a big ask to beat this year. The team bars record might be the most possible.
The Big Picture
Utah State is beginning to settle after a major upheaval two seasons ago. Finding stability will be the key to success. The freshmen look ready to step up while an ultra-talented sophomore class can increase its consistency and maybe expand to competing more events. It might still be a stretch to make it back to regionals, but the Aggies should definitely improve on their 2024 results.
UC Davis
2024 was an up-and-down year for UC Davis. With the Aggies’ biggest stars entering their senior season, expect fireworks. Consistency is a bigger ask, but an intriguing freshman class means this team at least isn’t likely to struggle with depth.
2024 Rewind
No. 47 overall | No. 2 at MPSFs | No. 47 in regular season
Always a high-variance team, 2024 was a bit of a down year for UC Davis in terms of the rankings. The good days were great, though. Two individuals represented the Aggies at regionals, and both return to the team for 2025.

The current team all-around, bars, and beam program records were set on a remarkable senior day in 2024. Individual program record holders on vault, bars, and floor return to the team in 2025.
The Big Picture
There’s plenty of individual talent on the roster at UC Davis. The challenge, as always, is getting whole lineups consistent. Expect bars to be a strength: This was the Aggies’ best event in 2024 and only one routine graduated. The most likely outcome is that this season’s results are similar to last year’s for Davis, but there’s definitely potential to improve.
Sacramento State
The Hornets had a record-setting season in 2024 and are looking to build on that in 2025. They will retain some of their highest-scoring routines, as well as add several under-the-radar gymnasts that will only help the momentum continue to increase in 2025.
2024 Rewind
No. 54 overall | No. 3 at MPSFs | No. 54 in regular season
Last season, the first under head coach Melissa Genovese, saw Sacramento State finish with its highest ranking since 2018. Finishing third at MPSFs was unexpected, though, considering how successfully the team had performed in the regular season. The Hornets will want to use that disappointment as motivation heading into 2025.

The Hornets had a record-breaking season in 2024 and should only continue to improve. The floor team set an event record of 49.425, and every routine from that lineup is back in addition to a handful of new options to add to the mix. Additionally, junior Sarah Lutrel was within a quarter-tenth of setting a new Sacramento State all-around record, so keep an eye out for that feat as the Hornets take to the competition floor in 2025.
The Big Picture
In her first season as head coach, Genovese and her staff led the team to new program records and put it on a path to future success.. Going into year two, expectations will continue to rise, now with a conference championship and maybe even a regionals berth as realistic goals to strive for.
Air Force
Air Force comes into 2025 with one of the largest freshmen classes while also returning two very key pieces in its puzzle. Maggie Slife and Clara Wallace were crucial contributors to the Falcons’ improvements in 2024 and look to keep building in 2025.

No. 56 was an improvement for the Falcons from 2023. In the team’s first year in the Mountain West, it finished fourth in the conference championship. The Falcons then competed as USAGs, placing third and earning two individual national titles on beam and floor.

Bars became a stronger event for the Falcons in 2024, as they tied or exceeded their previous records. With the return of most of that lineup and some additional options coming from the freshmen, the Falcons could continue to surpass it.
The Big Picture
Air Force has a lot to look forward to in 2025. Slife and Wallace made names for themselves as freshmen and will be expected to continue that in their sophomore campaigns. A massive class of newcomers with a lot of talent of their own should help take some of the pressure off. While they may not qualify to regionals as a team, the Falcons will aim to qualify for WCGNICs and should succeed in doing so.
Alaska
The northernmost team in NCAA gymnastics saw quite a bit of turnover this offseason, with an important senior class retiring, as well as transfers both in and out. Alaska is also continuing to show its strength in international recruiting, with no less than seven nationalities represented on this year’s roster. Expect a fascinating and unpredictable season for the Seawolves.
2024 Rewind
No. 72 overall | No. 4 at MPSFs | No. 72 in regular season
Alaska has slid steadily down the rankings since it was nearly cut in 2019 following a historically great season. The Seawolves haven’t found a lot of momentum since then, and No. 72 is the lowest finish in a quarter of a century. Finishing at the bottom of the MPSF isn’t in itself a disappointment, though; even in a great year, Alaska would probably lack the ceiling to contend in the current iteration of this conference.

Even though 2024 wasn’t one for the history books, several of the team event records were endangered at one point or another. Vault might have the best shot at falling in 2025: Last year’s season high of 48.575 was only a tenth short of the record, and both transfers bring competition-ready vaults to Anchorage.
The Big Picture
There’s a lot to like about this Alaska roster. It has a good balance of experience with young talent, as well as outside perspective from transfers and technical diversity from international elites. At this level, success has a lot to do with taking prudent risks with skill choice in order to stay consistent, and that balance has been hard for Alaska to strike in recent years. Depth should be more comfortable for the Seawolves this year, but it’ll take good management and thoughtful routine construction to climb back up the rankings.
