2025 MIC & Independents Potential Lineups

Jump to: Texas Woman’s | SEMO | Fisk | Centenary | Greenville | Wilberforce

Illinois State

Illinois State has surged over the past four seasons, finishing in the low 50s to low 40s each year. That progression was led in good part by fan-favorite all-arounder Angelica Labat, who graduated after five brilliant seasons. 2025 will look very different without her leadership, but the Redbirds caught some transfers from now-defunct Lindenwood and are bringing in former four-star recruit and strong all-arounder Savannah Ray, as well as former three-star Abbey Harris, to help.

2024 Rewind

No. 44 overall | No. 3 at MICs | No. 44 in regular season

The Redbirds had a chaotic 2024 for non-gymnastics reasons, when Nirel Bart-Williams disappeared from lineups; she was found to have been dealing with legal issues and was removed from the roster. Her absence was followed by a few short-term lineup absences, but the Redbirds just kept finding depth. Bars and beam suffered the most from the lineup shuffling, but altogether Illinois State had a very good year.

Alana Laster carries on the Redbird tradition of sticking Yurchenko one and a halves, and on the right day she could threaten that individual record. Jaye Mack is certainly capable of matching her floor record as well.

The Big Picture

Illinois State is losing some of its brightest stars but still has huge talent on the roster. Sophomore Reese Grolla should help lead the way to stabilizing bars and beam, and Ray has the talent to largely fill Labat’s shoes across the four events. This could be the year the Redbirds go to regionals.

Texas Woman’s

Head coach Lisa Bowerman hasn’t been shy in saying she hopes to take her DII and USAG powerhouse Pioneers to NCAA regionals as a team during her tenure, and while 2025 may not be the year for TWU, the roster has the talent to continue making progress in the right direction. Fifth-year leadership from stalwarts Steelie King and Kaitlyn Hoiland should pair well with a large and talented freshman class that includes former four-star recruit Bailey Upton—the program’s highest-rated recruit ever.

2024 Rewind

No. 51 overall | No. 2 at MICs | No. 51 in regular season | USAG Team Final

Historically, the Pioneers are no strangers to lifting trophies, but they haven’t done so at the conference or USAG level since 2022. TWU finished second to Lindenwood at both the MIC and USAG championship meets last year, and with 2024 tragically the final season for the Lions’ program, the Pioneers are looking like the favorites for both titles in the coming season.

In her first season with TWU after transferring from Oregon State, Hoiland had a remarkable year, setting a new program-best mark on bars in her final dual meet of the season. As the likely anchor of an experienced bars lineup, look for Hoiland to up the school record at least once more before she finishes off her career.

The Big Picture

In addition to Upton, the Pioneers are bringing in two former three-star recruits, Jordan Loock and Kyleigh Ghanbari, who project to impact lineups immediately and help put TWU in championship-contending status again. A top 50 final ranking is also well within reach, with plenty of returning routines across all four events.

SEMO

SEMO had a roller coaster of a season in 2024. It started with a lot of potential, with the team smashing program records, but injuries plagued it as the season progressed. Heading into 2025, the Redhawks look to recapture some of their momentum from seasons’ past with the help of a few new faces.

2024 Rewind

No. 59 overall | No. 4 at MICs | No. 59 in regular season

In their first season as a fully funded program, the Redhawks remained in the top 50 for the third straight season. Now that the squad looks to be regaining health, it will want to improve upon that ranking and qualify an individual to the NCAA postseason for the first time since 2022.

Look for the seniors to come close to matching many of the program’s records in their final season. Before her injury, Lindsey Ockler set a new individual program record on bars with a perfect 10.0. She could be in a position to reach that mark again. Senior Madison Greene was within a quarter of a tenth of tying the individual record on vault with her Yurchenko full and has the potential to get there in 2025.

The Big Picture

The Redhawks are a group that have seen their share of highs and lows, and 2024 was no exception. They return a lot of experienced athletes and bring in a host of new faces that are ready to make their mark. 2025 can be a turning point.

Fisk

2024 was a year to remember for the Bulldogs with Morgan Price becoming the first HBCU gymnast to win the USAG all-around title. The team returns for its third season with a wealth of experience and a few newcomers looking to provide depth and experience.

Making history is not an unfamiliar concept for the Bulldogs. All individual records are in the 9.900-range, with vault, bars, and floor in particular being ones to watch in 2025. The Bulldogs have also been flirting with 49.000 on several events and have the ability to surpass the threshold.

The Big Picture

While the Bulldogs lose some depth as they head into year three, the newcomers have the ability to step in and push Fisk toward another record-breaking season. Improving upon the weaker events, particularly floor, will be a goal for the season, as well as continuing to send individuals to WCGNICs (formerly USAGs) for a chance at more hardware.

Centenary

2025 brings a new-look team to Centenary, as the team loses a class that not only provided several key routines but stability throughout its time in Shreveport. The incoming freshman, led by Barbados elite Erin Pinder, will play a key role in 2025 as the Ladies look to redeem themselves from a less-than-consistent season in 2024.

2024 Rewind

No. 80 overall | No. 5 at MICs | No. 80 in regular season

Centenary dropped seven rankings from 2023 after the team lost several routines and struggled to find consistent replacements right away. The Ladies finished fifth at MICs due to struggles on bars, their best event. However, they did send five individuals to USAGs.

Centenary has struggled to repeat its success from the early 2000s, but there are some bright spots to look forward to in 2025. The Ladies were half a tenth away from a new team record on vault, and with some new options and the return of Olivia Stratmann from an ACL tear, they could achieve the feat in 2025.

The Big Picture

Centenary will be a team few will recognize in 2025. With an accomplished group of seniors graduating, as well as a large class of newcomers, the Ladies could struggle to find their footing to start. They will need to improve on every event if they want a chance to improve on last year’s results.

Greenville

The Panthers have had many ups and downs in their short tenure as a team. Heading into its third season, Greenville could finally make a push further up the rankings. With a new head coach and an international freshman with an impressive skill set, this could be a season for the record books as the Panthers are scheduled to compete at NCGAs and WCGNICs (formerly USAGs), pending qualification, for the first time.

2024 Rewind

No. 83 overall | No. 83 in regular season

While it struggled to maintain high team scores, Greenville consistently scored in the mid-to-high 185s, an improvement from its first year. The Panthers ended last season with a program-record score, though, so the potential is there to hit 190 or higher this season.

The 2024 season was a large improvement for the Panthers as they exceeded every record they set from their inaugural 2023. Look for that trend to continue as Grenier starts her tenure in Illinois. Ashlie Leage, Rachel Miller, and Amara Nelson were responsible for setting new individual event records for the Panthers in 2024; as the highest-returning NQS scores, they should be top contributors again in 2025. Matilda Brougham also has the possibility to etch her name into the record books in her first season.

The Big Picture

While it may be one of the newer teams in the NCAA, Greenville is ready to make a statement. Grenier is a first-time head coach, but with the talent she has, there’s no arguing the Panthers have high potential. The question is how far can that potential take them. Qualification as a team to NCGAs would be a good start.

Wilberforce

After the surprise dissolution of Talladega’s gymnastics program, Wilberforce took in many of its former team members and will be starting the program a year earlier than expected. A lot of things look to be in flux, but one that’s certain is this team has a lot of potential.

The Big Picture

Despite the small roster size, the Bulldogs have the potential to make waves in their inaugural season. They will need to be careful, though, as depth could play a role later on as the season progresses. With the entire team made up of either freshmen or Talladega transfers, there will be extra motivation to prove that starting the team a year early was worth it.
