LIVE BLOG: NCGA-East Regional

Buckle up, everyone—this regional is going to be a wild ride! I’ll be bringing you all the action live from Brockport, New York, so this live blog is live live.

Host team Brockport enters as the clear favorite, aiming for its fifth consecutive regional title. But, in the words of Ellie Goulding, anything can happen. Both Cortland and Rhode Island have been quietly—but impressively—putting up big scores all season. Olivia Keyes and Aaliyah Krause are leading the charge for the Anchorwomen, positioning themselves as two of the top all-arounders in the East. Meanwhile, the Red Dragons boast a deep roster of specialists, including standout performers Samantha Meadows and Autumn Adkins.

Ithaca and Ursinus are looking to punch their ticket to nationals, and with a strong performance (plus a little luck), they could pull off an upset. But even if a team bid doesn’t materialize, both squads—along with Springfield and Utica—have excellent chances of qualifying individual gymnasts. Keep an eye on Emmy Graff, Erin Roe, and Sage Kaplan as potential event specialists advancing to the next stage.

The top two teams today will automatically qualify for NCGA Nationals, hosted by Gustavus Adolphus on March 22. The remaining qualifiers will depend on scores from across the East and West regionals, with the WIAC competing in both an afternoon and evening session. When the dust settles, six teams, six all-arounders, and 20 event specialists will keep their seasons alive.

I’d love to write a full-length dissertation breaking down every gymnast and team, but Elizabeth would prefer I didn’t—and, frankly, we don’t have that kind of time before the first routine. So, without further ado, let’s get this party started.

We’re rolling with march outs!

After 1: Springfield 48.550, Rhode Island 48.025, Utica 47.975, Ursinus 46.275

Springfield started strong on floor, Rhode Island had an exceptional time on vault (Aaliyah Krause still living rent free in my head). Utica squeaked by without counting a fall on beam, and Ursinus can safely and happily put bars behind.

After 2: Springfield 95.575, Brockport 48.650, Ithaca 48.175, Rhode Island 48.025, Utica 47.975, Cortland 47.300, Ursinus 46.275

Welcome to the portion of the meet where none of the scores will evel out until the very end. That being said, most of the teams have been faced with pressure for the reamining part of the line up to hit, but each has come through and delivered. There might be errors, but each team is coming back with a fierce look in their eyes.

Utica is CRUISING, Rhode Island moved past any of its demons leftover from its outing last weekend. In this upcoming rotation, keep an eye on Hockman. Going near perfect is the key to her continuing to be on the bubble to possibly qualifying to NCAA regionals, but those numbers are fluid and that doesn’t take into consideration any scores from other schools so far this weekend, so absolutely nothing is in stone.

Rotation 4: Utica VT, Springfield UB, Cortland BB, Brockport FX

Miller (Utica): Y lay, plants her feet.

Pinckard (Utica): Y lay, bent at the hips.

DiPalo (Utica): Y lay, archy, but good distnace.

After 4: Utica 143.550, Springfield 140.075, Brockport 96.650, Ithaca 96.150, Cortland 95.625, Rhode Island 94.600, Ursinus 94.150

Brockport had some very uncharacteristic struggles on floor and Cortland had the same issue on beam, so there are definitely some curveballs flying around the Vlog today.

Rotation 5: Brockport VT, Ithaca UB, Rhode Island BB, Ursinus FX

Kay (Bport): Caught it out of the corner of my eye, hops on the landing.

Gibbs (Bport): Tsuk full, good.

Brandt (RIC): Front aerial to back tuck. Hits jump series. Swithc leap to tuck 3/4, leg comes up, shuffles and saves it. Gainer lay full off side, hop in place it looked like.

Edit: seems like my brain totally blanked on a routine somewhere in there. It’s a four ring circus, friends.

Krause (RIC): BHS LOSO, soft knees in the air but square throughout. Cat leap to switch side, leg pops up a little. Cat leap to swit h half, fights, slips, straaaaaddles the beam? Gets back up. Hits the jump series after. Tuck front full, good.

Matteucci (Ursinus): RO double tuck. What’s in the water in Ursinus? Those double tucks are perfection. Love the drama of this floor routien and hte choreo. Wolf hop full to swithch side to straddle, excellent. RO 1.5 to front lay, that’s going to be a fantastic score.

After 5: Brockport 145.175, Ithaca 143.600, 143.550, Ursinus 142.850, Rhode Island 142.000, Springfield 140.075, Cortland 95.625

Just a couple more rotations to go, hang in there! This is a marathon, not a sprint. For some, the sixth rotation will be the end of the day since they’ll finish on a bye.
