The Dismount: Week 8

Week 8 saw multiple meets with postseason implications take place. While some teams performed up to their potential—making large jumps in the rankings in the process—others will need to put in some work in the remaining three weeks to position themselves well for regionals. Catch up on everything you missed with superlatives, results and recaps below.

Superlatives

Most Heartfelt Tribute

Southern Utah hosted Boise State for its annual My Cause meet this week. While recognizing individual gymnasts’ causes, the Thunderbirds also dedicated the meet to Boise State head coach Tina Bird’s grandson, Baker, who was born with Congenital Cytomegalovirus (cCMV).

Best Perspective

Big Fives were about more than gymnastics for the Spartans, who were competing for the first time since a mass shooting on their campus. They wore the initials of the students who died on their arms.

Best Commitment to the Team

West Virginia made the most of its trip to the south with a win over Texas Woman’s, capping it off with head coach Jason Butts posting an iconic selfie in a Buc-ee’s beaver onesie.
