The Dismount: Week 2

After Week 1’s exciting start to the 2023 season, Week 2 was no less thrilling with the trio of Salt Lake City quads, a number of tight duals and broken records scattered everywhere. Catch up on everything you might have missed—or relive your favorite moments—with superlatives, results, recaps and more below.

Superlatives

Best Dressed

West Virginia held an ’80s meet Friday night for its tri against Kent State and Maryland. And while the Golden Flashes showed out with their crushed velvet leos, we have to give props to Mountaineer head coach Jason Butts’ red and black pleather jacket and mirror shades.

Gutsiest Performance

Elena Arenas was added to the beam lineup after Kiya Johnson was injured on floor in the previous rotation. Then, she watched Bryce Wilson take a scary fall in the middle of the lineup. Despite all of that, she competed a beautiful routine for a career high 9.925.

Hottest Start to the Season

The reigning NCGA champs picked up right where they left off in 2022, posting a huge number in both meets so far this season, including a program record floor total on Saturday. Big things are in store for the Titans in 2023!

With the Wasatch Classic in Utah’s backyard, some of the Red Rocks gymnasts took in the action before doing an autograph session for fans in attendance. Maile O’Keefe was especially pumped when featured on the jumbotron’s dance cam.

There were six perfect 10s scored Week 2, from multiple meets and gymnasts across the country. But which was the most perfect perfect 10? Our vote goes to Trinity Thomas on floor—her fifth in a row on the event dating back to last season.
