LIVE BLOG: No. 35 Temple, Central Michigan at New Hampshire

While this is only the first meet of the season for Central Michigan, both Temple and New Hampshire will already be looking to press the reset button here. Temple started off its season at the Keystone Classic in Pittsburgh last week where the Owls were on 196 pace until the third rotation. A rough floor rotation followed by a less than stellar vault rotation left Temple with much to be desired as the team score ended up ranking the team below LIU for the first time since LIU’s program started. New Hampshire also scored below LIU in its first meet. The Wildcats struggled when the team visited Southern Utah on Monday. The team recorded only two scores above 9.5 on bars in the opening rotation, and the struggles did not end there. Both teams will be looking to rebound in Week 2.

Central Michigan looked strong at the exhibition meet in December, and will be looking to kind off its season strong here. Look out for the collegiate debut of Luciana Alvardo as well as key all arounder Hannah Demers. New Hampshire’s bar rotation was highlighted on Monday by Kylie Gorgenyi who will be one to watch today as well as beam star Alyssa Worthington. The Temple twins of Hannah and Sarah Stallings had strong days on bars and beam last week, and will look to do so again here. Keep your eye on freshman Ashley Glynn who did a Yurchenko one and a half last week to cap off that rotation.

Rotation 1: New Hampshire vault, Temple bars, Central Michigan beam

The stream has not started so I have probably watched this ESPN+ add 50 times already.

Gymnasts are being introduced now.

Touch warmups happening now.

Moreno (UNH): Bounced on the landing on that Yurchenko full. A bit of piking, and off to the side of the mat. 9.5

Brooks (TEM): Big tkatchev. 9.675

Veglucci (CMU): Flexed feet and bent legs on the loso series, but solid. Held onto the dismount. 9.6

Mullin (UNH): Bigger Yurchenko full and less pike down, but still some with a small hop back. 9.75

Dorunda (TEM): Missed toes on the initial Ray. Took a couple of swings to repeat and couldn’t catch the bar. Stuck the dismount though. 8.55

Skrupa (CMU): Slight lean on the loso series. Slow on the double wolf, but made it around. The bhs to tucked back 1.5 had just a hop forward. 9.525

Mowers (UNH): Nice Yurchenko half, but a little underrotated with a hop back. 9.65

Elmore (TEM): Short on first handstand and a little low on the tkatchev. Strong bail. Hit the giant full only slightly late and had a small hop on the double pike. 9.675

Alvarado-Reid (CMU): Off on the loso series. Had a break in the hips on the single skill. Big wobble and almost came off again on the switch to switch half. 8.775

Beaulieu (UNH): Best Yurchenko full so far. Best body position with only a small pike and a hop in place. 9.775

Whalen (TEM): Nice first handstand, a little leg separation on the bail. Nice full twisting double back dismount with just a small step. Low chest. 9.725

Kolyvanova (CMU): Slightly short of split on the switch half, but it was landed well. Solid front aerial. Almost overcooked the full turn. Very nice loso series. Hop forward on the dismount. 9.775

H Stallings (TEM): Nice position on the bail. Stuck the double layout dismount. 9.7

Demers (CMU): Very solid front aerial. The camera cut away from the routine in the middle. The positions in the leaps were great. Stuck the bhs to back 1.5 dismount. 9.675

Gorgenyi (UNH):Solid Yurchenko full with just a small amount of piking and a small hop. 9.825

S Stallings (TEM): The camera was shaking during Stallings’ routine, but it didn’t seem like she came off. 9.85 so it was a nice one that we didn’t get to see.

Bustelo (CMU): Slight lean on the front aerial. Very solid loso series. Very clean switch to split 3/4s. Stuck the front tuck full dismount. 9.875

Glynn (TEM): Exhibition. Nice first handstand. Leg separation on the Maloney to bail. Nice giant full and had a hop on the double back dismount.

Fall on the acrobatic series from the CMU exhibition

After 1: Temple 48.625, New Hampshire 48.5, Central Michigan 48.45

Not the cleanest rotation for any team. Both Temple and Central Michigan had early falls that each will be glad to have not had to count.

Rotation 2: New Hampshire bars, Temple beam, Central Michigan floor

Bauman (UNH): Nice jaeger to overshoot. 9.675

Schugman (TEM): Has to step back on the front aerial. Has to redo the series. Finishes well. 9.45

Hornbacher (CMU): Big tumbling. Step back on the last past and moves the front foot. 9.75

Brown (UNH): Nice clear hip to bail. Nice Markelov. Sticks the dismount. 9.725

Dorunda (TEM): Nice triple series. Small hop forward at the end. 9.775

Alvarado-Reid (CMU): Nice landing on double pike. A little wonky on the Rudi to double stag. Very clean back 1.5 to front layout. 9.775

S Stallings (TEM): Nice toepoint on the bhs bhs loso series. Nice cat leap to side somi. Wobble on the turn. 9.7

Buttle (CMU): Made it around on the switch side to Popa. Mostly controlled landings. 9.8

Beaulieu (UNH): The first half wasn’t shown, but a little over on the giant full and stuck the double tuck dismount. 9.825

Donabedian (TEM): The front aerial to bhs bhs was well conected. A little bit of knees though. A little low on the side somi. Lean after the double stag in the jump series. Sticks the back 1.5 dismount. 9.775

Veglucci (CMU): Nice front double full. Good control out of the combination pass. 9.725

Gorgenyi (UNH): Big bounce back on the full twisting double back. 9.85

H Stallings (TEM): Balance check with the leg up on the series and then another wobble. Clean leaps. Hop forward on the back 1.5 dismount. 9.625

Demers (CMU): Nice front double full. Has to really fight to make sure she doesn’t go out of bounds. Does go out of bounds on the double pike in the next pass. Sticks the front layout to Rudi though. 9.65

Whitehead (UNH): Arches the clearhip. Sticks the dismount at the end. 9.625

Roland (TEM): Off on the loso series. Very solid recovery on the hitch kick t side aerial. Big lunge forward on the back 1.5 dismount. 9.05

Pitchell (CMU): Huge double pike. Big lunge back. Awkward on the landing of the front layout to front full. Controlled the landing on the double tuck. 9.8

Johnson (TEM): Exhibition Very solid through the first part of this routine. The front aerial to bhs is well connected. Strong switch to split jump.

Kolyvanova (CMU): Exhibition. Floaty back 1.5 to front layout. Hit the position in the switch ring. Very solid landing to the double tuck.

After 2: Central Michigan 97.350, New Hampshire 97.275, Temple 96.950

It was an overall solid rotation. Central Michigan was able to have a strong floor rotation to no come ahead of both New Hampshire and Temple. Temple had some early season wobbles which hurt that rotation.

Rotation 3: Central Michigan vault, New Hampshire beam, Temple floor

Cesarone (CMU): Stuck the Yurchenko full. 9.75

Bauman (UNH): Solid front aerial to bhs. Knees on the bhs though. Lean on the front toss. Stuck the dismount. 9.675

Hill (TEM): Whip to what I am not sure if it was meant to be piked, but it was definitely tucked. Fell on the last pass. It was underrotated. 8.95

Hornbacher (CMU): Did not have the rotation on the dismount and fell forward mirroring the landing on the floor routine that was happening at the same time. 8.825

Brown (UNH): Very nice handtand to bhs to loso. I like the handstand first. Big break at the waist on the side aerial, but stays on. Sticks the gainer full dismount. 9.5

H Stallings (TEM): Great landing on the back 1.5 to front full. Landed the double pike with both feet out of bounds and her body was pitched forward as well. 9.475

Alvarado-Reid (CMU): Solid Yurchenko full. 9.75

Simpkins (UNH): Bent knees on the loso series. A little bit shaky throughout. 9.525

Roland (TEM): Not all the way around on the second leap. A little low on the double tuck and had to take a step forward. 9.325

Bootz (CMU): Front tuck half vault. hop on the landing. 9.725

Beaulieu (UNH): Very solid front toss and connects it to a bhs. Not the most smooth connection, but I am sure they will give it. The cat leap to switch side was solid. Small hop on the 1.5 dismount. Very nice routine. 9.775

Ruskey (TEM): There is a conference going on before this routine. The double pike at the end went straight up into the air and bounced forward on that landing. 9.675

Kmieciak (CMU): A pretty big pike down and took a step forward. Didn’t get her feet all the way on the board. 9.5

Worthington (UNH): Off on the side aerial to bhs series. Holds the scale nicely. Nice leap series. Stuck the gainer pike dismount. Strong after the fall. 9.3

Schugman (TEM): All the way around on the leaps to start. Controlled landing on the back 1.5 to front full. A little bit of knees. Slide back on the double pike at the end. 9.85

Demers (CMU): A pike down and step forward on her full 9.65

Kelley (UNH): Slight lean at the end of the bhs loso loso series. Some knees throughout. Very solid front toss. Stuck the bhs to gainer full dismount. 9.875

Donabedian (TEM): Nice Rudi to loso. Did not make it all the way around on the split full. Nice control on the front double full to end. 9.55

After 3: Central Michigan 145.725, New Hampshire 145.625, Temple 144.825

Not a strong rotation for any team. Each team had a fall as well as some lower than ideal scores. Kelley was a strong highlight in the rotation though.

Rotation 4: Temple vault, Central Michigan bars, New Hampshire floor

Brooks (TEM): Lunge forward on the full.

Hammond (CMU): Off the bars. Short on the bail. Stuck the full twisting double back dismount.

Himes (UNH): Nice leaps. Great control on double tuck.

S Stallings (TEM): Nice full. Some piking.

Kmieciak (CMU): Was going aggressive on the handstand and came off the bar. Step back on the dismount.

Gorgenyi (UNH): Solid double pike to open. Nice control on the front full to front pike.

Aresta (TEM): Not the biggest vault, some piking, and a hop forward on her full.

Veglucci (CMU): Big geiner. Far on the pak. Flung out the dismount a little, but stuck it.

Brown (UNH): Big lunge back on the Rudi to end, but the front foot did not move.

Schugman (TEM): Big hop forward on the Yurchenko half.

Bustelo (CMU): Big release combination there. A little shy on the giant full, but stuck the dismount.

Worthington (UNH): Nice front full to front half and into an little wild of a straddle jump. Stuck the Rudi.

H Stallings (TEM): Landed her full with one foot over the line on the map, but only had a small hop back. Some piking.

Alvarado-Reid (CMU): Nice first handstand. Kept her legs together on the Maloney to pak combination. A little shy on the last handstand. A small step back on the dismount.

Beaulieu (UNH): Bounced back on the double tuck. Also had a little bit of a bounce on the front layout to front full. It was more controlled though. Was leaning forward as she bounced on the landing of her Rudi.

Glynn (TEM): Slight hop to the side on her Yurchenko 1.5. Solid form.

Demers (CMU): Huge tkatchev. Held on to the almost stick on the full twisting double back dismount. Had the chest forward and swung her arms, but only had the slightest of foot movements.

Macdonald (UNH): Started off with a L turn going into her wolf full. Step forward on the double back. Skids back on the front layout to front full. Stays on her feet though. Crosses the feet on the Rudi. It was a little bit underrotated, but she controlled the landing. There is a judging conference likely on the rotation of the last pass.

Biette (UNH): Exhibition. Didn’t fully rotate the front double full and did a cross lunge forward and put her hand on the ground. Came back strong on the combo pass. Made it around on the leaps. The front Rudi was controlled.

FINAL: New Hampshire 194.475, Central Michigan 194.100, Temple 193.200
