The USAG Dismount: Week 1

With the entire Ivy League and ECAC-II out of commission for the 2021 season due to COVID-19, as well as Seattle Pacific permanently cutting its program (RIP), expect some brief installations of the USAG Dismount this year. This week’s will be even briefer, with just one event. But don’t worry! Next week we’ll have real meet coverage. This week, we’ll just go over the Texas Woman’s intrasquad.

Texas Woman’s

Texas Woman’s is a school at which the annual Holiday Spectacular meet-the-team event is an extremely big deal, with Christmas socks all around and even Christmas-colored athletic tape. A January intrasquad this year helped to allay our immense sadness at missing out on the December festivities. The Pioneers impressed at their intrasquad meet, scoring a team total of 193.625. Most key returners, including Isabel Goyco and Paige Stuyinski, competed their usual events successfully. Domi Bonzagni looked excellent on three events and turned in a team-leading score on bars. Transfer Alix Pierce, who was a star in her freshman season at Seattle Pacific, looks like a major force for the Pioneers with an E pass on floor and a meet-winning 9.775 score on beam (tied with Goyco). Among the freshmen, note that Lexi Leake won vault at the intrasquad meet and Steelie King looks like a regular top-six contributor.
