There’s a lot that happens on the gymternet each week. So much so that it can be hard to keep track of it all. From training updates and COVID news to recruiting rumors and coaching announcements, we don’t blame you for missing some important points here and there.

But that’s where we come in. Last Week in College Gym is your one-stop shop for all the important headlines from the previous week in college gymnastics. No matter if you’re taking a social media break, went on vacation or just don’t have the capacity to follow every single gymnast, team and fan, we have you covered.

Top Storylines

ESPN Releases 2021 SEC Schedule

ESPN networks will air more than 40 hours of gymnastics during the 2021 season, per its official schedule. Notably, LSU’s meet at Auburn on Jan. 29 will air live on ESPN2. 

Arkansas to Hold Virtual Meet the Gymbacks Event 

Arkansas will hold its Meet the Gymbacks event on Sunday, Dec. 20 from 6-7 PM. Fans can RSVP here with questions for coach Jordyn Wieber and the team to answer during the event. 

Ursinus Cancels their Season

The Centennial Conference, which Ursinus College is a part of, announced their cancellation of their winter athletic season. It is noted that even though Ursinus gymnastics team is not a Centennial Conference member, they will also abide by that decision. 

Other Newsworthy Items

  • Rachel Bain, BYU, got married and officially changed her Instagram handle to reflect her new last name Rachel Bain Heaton. 
  • Springfield College Senior Sara King competed in the Slovenian Senior Nationals where she placed third on Bars and fifth on Beam.
  • Florida junior Savannah Schoenherr will participate in USA Gymnastics’ Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Bias in Gymnastics webinar series. The discussion will take place on Wednesday, December 16th. 

Training Updates

  • Western Michigan sophomore Payton Murphy was shown on all four events at the team Intrasquad last week, which is promising following her absence due to a neck injury in 2020. Not to be missed: Murphy is adding her name to the list of gymnasts with a Deltchev release on bars.
