About Gabby

Gladieux is the 2019 Nastia Liukin Cup junior champion and a three-time J.O. nationals qualifier. At nationals she won silver medals in the all around and on bars (tied) in 2018 (Junior B). She also won gold on vault in 2019 (Junior C). Gladieux is the 2018 Region 8 all around champion and the 2019 North Carolina state all around champion.

What She Brings to Alabama

Vault

  • Skill: Yurchenko full
  • Results: 2019 J.O. national champion (Junior C)
  • Margin of Improvement: Gladieux achieves great height and distance on her vault. The only obvious deduction is her tendency to take a step back on the landing. Her amplitude, though, is impressive, which may suggest an upgrade in the making.
  • Impact on the Team: Once Gladieux joins Alabama, its current best vaulters will have graduated. She will be expected to fill a lineup spot from the start.

Uneven Bars

  • Skills: straddle Jaeger, Pak salto, double front dismount
  • Results: tied second place at 2018 J.O. nationals (Junior B)
  • Margin of Improvement: As her achievements prove, Gladieux is an excellent all arounder. Of the four apparatuses, however, bars still needs more improvement than the others. The most obvious deductions are a leg bend on her Jaeger and flexed feet on her dismount. She has two more years of club gymnastics to refine her execution, though, and the amplitude on her Pak is impressive.
  • Impact on the Team: Despite the minor deductions in her routine, Gladieux will be expected to contribute here too. A second half of Alabama’s lineup with Gladieux, Shania Adams and Makarri Doggette is going to be first class.

Balance Beam

  • Skills: front aerial + BHS + LOSO, leap jump to straddle jump quarter, switch leap to back tuck somersault, beat jump to tuck jump three-quarter, double tuck dismount
  • Results: 2019 North Carolina state and Region 8 champion
  • Margin of Improvement: Gladieux is an exceptional beam worker. Her lines are beautiful and her routine is difficult. The only obvious deduction is a slight knee bend on her back handspring series.
  • Impact on the Team: This is Gladieux’s best apparatus and she will have an immediate impact on the lineup. She and Luisa Blanco are going to be a stunning duo.

Floor Exercise

  • Skills: double layout, front layout to Rudi to leap jump, double pike
  • Results: 2019 North Carolina state champion
  • Margin of Improvement: Gladieux can still improve two elements in her routine. One is her double layout, which is still a bit piked. The other is her ring positions: She could throw her head back and extend her back leg a bit more. She has plenty of time to perfect her execution, though. She is a good dancer too.
  • Impact on the Team: Two of Alabama’s best floor workers, Blanco and Doggette, will still be competing once Gladieux gets to Tuscaloosa. She will be expected to perform on their same level.
