About Omer

Danenberg Lerner excels on beam. She won gold medals at the 2020 Edgewater Classic and at the Manhattan Classic, as well as a silver medal at the 2019 Arizona Sunrays Classic where she scored her career high. In 2016, Danenberg Lerner traveled to Israel, her country of origin, where she competed at the Maccabiah Games, helping Team USA win a silver medal.

What She Brings to Iowa State

Vault

  • Skills: Yurchenko layout/Yurchenko half-on front tuck
  • Results: fourth place at the 2020 Tampa Bay Turners Invite
  • Margin of Improvement: Danenberg Lerner will want to increase her difficulty, as her current vaults start from a 9.750 and 9.800, respectively. She is training a Yurchenko half, which looks good and starts from a 9.950.
  • Impact on the Team: As a team on the rise, Iowa State will hope not to have to use Danenberg Lerner’s current vault. A solid Yurchenko half, however, could make the lineup.

Uneven Bars

  • Skills: half pirouette, shoot over, double tuck dismount
  • Results: fifth place at the 2020 Edgewater Classic (career high)
  • Margin of Improvement: Bars is Danenberg Lerner’s weakest event. Her lines and handstands are remarkably good, but her start value is low. She is working on some upgrades, though, including a blind full to double tuck dismount and a full pirouette to bail to handstand.
  • Impact on the Team: In 2022, Iowa State will look to replace its best bar worker, Natalia Ros Vaquer, who is graduating next year. Danenberg Lerner is not expected to fulfil that role, but hopefully she will be able to upgrade enough to challenge for a spot. Her handstands are really good!

Balance Beam

  • Skills: full turn with the leg held at a 180-degree split, front aerial to scale, front aerial + back tuck series, front toss, side aerial to full-twisting tuck dismount
  • Results: first place at the 2020 Edgewater Classic
  • Margin of Improvement: This is Danenberg Lerner’s best apparatus. Her lines are elegant and recently she has grown in confidence. Her front toss is the only element that needs some improvement, but she is working on it.
  • Impact on the Team: The only Cyclone gymnast to score a 9.900 on beam in 2020 was Sydney Converse who has graduated. Iowa State will then seek to improve its lineup. Danenberg Lerner is expected to make the difference here.

Floor Exercise

  • Skills: front double twist, 1.5 twist to front pike, Rudi, switch ring to switch leap full
  • Results: tied fourth place at the 2020 Tampa Bay Turners Invite (career high)
  • Margin of Improvement: She will want to improve the amplitude of her twisting elements, as well as their landings. Her routine is not very difficult, but she is working on some upgrades, including a solid double tuck and a double layout.
  • Impact on the Team: Iowa State will have to replace its best floor worker, Andrea Maldonado, the year Danenberg Lerner gets to college. She will likely not be able to perform Maldonado’s difficult passes, but if she increases her difficulty a bit, she could challenge for a lineup spot.
