LIVE BLOG: No. 26 Stanford at No. 25 Oregon State

I love watching meets between very close-ranked teams! There’s so much at stake here, between conference standings and individual titles and just plain credentials as teams that might be good here.

On paper I’d give the edge to the Beavers, who have the slightly higher season high this year and are at homeā€”plus, they’re objectively the superior team on paper. But they’ve had far more issues this year, with a running technical vault crisis, as well as inconsistency, especially on bars. Meanwhile, Stanford is not flooded with depth with Rachael Flam and Aleeza Yu out for the season, but it’s already found a way to get the maximum out of each routine. Scoring over 196 is a major landmark for the Cardinal, and while it probably can’t go much higher, its competitive ability this season is extremely impressive.

It’s worth noting that Oregon State head coach Tanya Chaplin has taken a leave of absence due to her health and will not be with the team for the near future.

Chloe Widner is not in lineups tonight for the Cardinal and may not be in Corvallis at all. Per commentators, she is out due to a disciplinary action.

Rotation 1: Oregon State vault, Stanford bars

Peterson (OSU): Full on pike off, one of her better chest positions but big hop back. 9.75

Lawson (Stanford): Maloney to bail, lost her legs in the air, toe blind with a leg flicker to double back, step forward.

Bird (OSU): Yurchenko full, soft on the table, a little bit of legs and a hop. 9.75

Waguespack (Stanford): Toe on to Maloney to Pak, going really well, double layout nice with a hop. Pretty! 9.825

Yanish (OSU): Huge FTY, so clean on the table, big bounce back. Amplitude is in a different universe to the rest of the team. 9.8

Brunette (Stanford): Half turn to Deltchev to overshoot, leg form throughout, double lay with legs apart and a hop in place. 9.825

L. Dagen (OSU): Good full, little hop back, her usual. Apparently she warmed up her one and a half today but they’re aiming to do it later in the season. 9.85

Bryant (Stanford): Toe on to Tkachev, Pak is lovely. Half turn on the low bar a little funky but gets through, double lay big and stuck. Really good! 9.9

M. Dagen (OSU): One and a half, nailed it! Little hop, looks thrilled. Wow! 9.9

Garcia (Stanford): Missed the first handstand. Blind to Jaeger to overshoot, little bits of form, blind to one and a half twist with chest a bit low and a step. 9.675

Mack (OSU): Okay full, some form and a low chest with a step back. 9.75

Micco (Stanford): Blind to Jaeger, beautiful! Bail, blind to one and a half dismount with a step. 9.6, a little confused since nothing was really wrong. Apparently one judge went 9.3 originally and there was a conference…

After 1: Oregon State 49.050, Stanford 49.000

I really don’t know what happened to Micco on bars there. Fine not great rotation from both teams, lots of landing issues.

Rotation 2: Stanford vault, Oregon State bars

Cole (Stanford): FTY, twisting on and pikey with a hop back. 9.725

Yamaoka (OSU): Shy first handstand, toe to Maloney, toe to bail good. Shy on another handstand, blind full double back with a step. 9.775

Bryant (Stanford): More piked down than her usual but still clean and dynamic, step back. 9.775

Lowery (OSU): Really weird on the toe on, Maloney to Pak all right, double layout flung out with a big hop forward. 9.675

Judging conference on this Lowery score, took their sweet time.

Navarro (Stanford): Piked throughout on her FTY, smaller hop back. 9.75

Bird (OSU): Stalder?? I think to bail, blinked for a second, Tkachev with not much turnover. FTDB with a hop in place. Great after such a long wait. 9.75

Bryant (Stanford): FTY, soft elbows on the table and a little piked in the air with a hop back. 9.775

Minyard (OSU): Hop change to Jaeger to overshoot, double layout STUCK. Wow! 9.85

Hoang (Stanford): Backup vaulter and it’s great! Closed shoulders on the table, piked down but for her first she should feel good. 9.85

Briscoe (OSU): Blind to Jaeger, pretty, bail missed handstand. Double layout with her chest forward and a hop. 9.825

Gill (OSU): Maloney to Pak, little leg sep but getting through, double layout badly underrotated and falls forward onto her hands. 9.1

After 2: Oregon State 97.975 – Stanford 97.925

Not a good rotation for either team again, but both teams surviving. Oregon State can make a statement on beam, while Stanford will be going five up again.

Rotation 3: Oregon State beam, Stanford floor

Davis (OSU): Front aerial back tuck, split double stag. Full turn with a lean. Kickover front, forward gainer full stuck. 9.875

Cole (Stanford): Two and a half front tuck, switch ring switch half good. Got the straddle jump, Rudi to stag is good. 9.775

Lowery (OSU): Full turn with a check, BHS LOSO good. Switch split straddle quarter, splits look short. Side split 1/2 is definitely short. Cat leap side aerial, Punch front full stuck. 9.875 is too high.

Lawson (Stanford): One and a half double back, out of bounds, tour jete half split full. Double pike, good. 9.675

Domingo (OSU): Front aerial back tuck good, switch straddle split 3/4 weight a bit back, adjusts. Full turn, sissone, gainer full with a step back. 9.825

Hoang (Stanford): Double lay, lovely. Good control. Front lay front full is good, double pike and has to pull her front foot back. Not her best but good.

L. Dagen (OSU): Switch switch side, beat front aerial, BHS LOSO is good. Full turn, gainer pike with a hop. 9.975

Bryant (Stanford): Massive full in, nailed it. Front through double pike, switch side Popa really good. Open double back, dances out of the lunge quickly but effectively I think. One of her best. 9.9 rude.

M. Dagen (OSU): BHS LOSO, arm swing and a minor lean, gets it back. Switch switch half badly short of splits, side aerial back full stuck.

Brunette (Stanford): Front through… front tuck to land on her back? That’s a big problem. Missed her step out. Obviously won’t get credit for her first pass. Gets the double back, good for her. 8.45

Lazaro (OSU): BHS pikeout, lean and arm swing. Switch split straddle 3/4, big check. side aerial back full. 9.825 lol

After 3: Oregon State 147.350 – Stanford 145.650

Rotation 4: Stanford beam, Oregon State floor

Stephenson (Stanford): Front aerial beat, BHS LOSO, split sheep is all right. Gainer full dismount with a step back. 9.85

Peterson (Oregon State): Double tuck, scoots the front foot back, front lay front full. Switch half Popa with a scoot back, double pike underrotated with a step forward. 9.825

Cole (Stanford): BHS LOSO, tentative but gets it. Full turn, with a lean, front aerial tentative again. Switch, breaks the connection, split double stag. Double full dismount close to stuck. 9.625

Bird (Oregon State): Front lay to Rudi, underrotated and lands twisting and staggered, big step out. Good leaps, two and a half twist pretty good. 9.7

Hoang (Stanford): BHS LOSO, off line and arrests it quickly. Straddle jump, full turn, front aerial. one and a half with a hop forward. 9.675

Force (Oregon State): Double pike really nice, front lay front full with leg form. Double tuck a little awkward jump to lunge but gets it. 9.9!

Lawson (Stanford): Arabian, nailed it. Cat leap switch half, gets it, full turn slow and pretty. BHS LOSO, a touch off line but works through with her arms, gainer pike low with a hop back. 9.775

M. Dagen (Oregon State): Front double full good, hit the leaps. Front lay front full, double pike overrotated, pulls the front foot back. 9.875

Navarro (Stanford): Jump to split is good, BHS BHS LOSO pops her hip but gets it. Full turn, dances out, switch split straddle 1/4. One and a half, big step forward and to one side, almost stepped on Wesley. 9.775

Lowery (Oregon State): Front double full, good landing. One and a half front lay, drilled, tour jete half Popa. Got the Rudi. One of her best, and in front of her mom who travleed from Australia for this one! 9.975

Bryant (Stanford): Full turn, BHS LOSO, beat jump switch split jump. RIght on so far, front tuck, BHS BHS double back with a big step. 9.85

Yanish (Oregon State): Double layout, little rebound. 10 watch is over. Front full front lay. Switch side Popa is great, double back underrotated with a step forward. 9.9 They want to give her a 10 so BAD and she won’t stop making mistakes.

Final: Oregon State 196.825 – Stanford 194.575

Not a bad meet! Oregon State should be happy with how it picked up the momentum after the midpoint. Stanford would have been close to 196 with a normal score from Brunette, so hopefully Widner will be back next year.

UB – Kyla Bryant (Stanford) 9.900
BB – Lacy Dagen (OSU) 9.975
