Last Week in College Gym: July 15

During the offseason, it can be difficult to keep up with all the news and training updates happening across the country. So each week, we will provide a curation of the most exciting upgrades, as well as other important news happening in the college gym world. Note the majority of the training updates highlighted will feature new skills and not, for example, someone training their same routine from the past season.

Finally, note we are only able to share links to updates posted on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook and not Instagram Stories or Snapchat. However, we will try to note any clips of note that we see on those disappearing platforms.

Of course, even with eight editors scouring social media for clips, we’ll still miss updates from time to time. Let us know in the comments or on social media if we didn’t include a new skill, injury comeback or more from someone on your favorite team!

Chloe Widner Trains Beam Combo

The Stanford freshman was seen training a beautiful front aerial to split leap combo on Stanford’s Instagram this week with the appropriately captioned: our newest beam queen.

Maddie Quarles AnnouncesTransfer

The sophomore confirmed that she will transfer from Denver to Minnesota on social media. She also posted a back handspring layout stepout on beam to her Instagram Story, which is significant because she has not competed since a J.O. meet in early 2018.

Emily Schild Continues Comeback

The Georgia junior, who had knee surgery in March after a season-ending injury, is back training bars. She posted a video of her working cast handstands

Abbey Ward Throws Shaposhnikova

It seems to be a summer of bar upgrades for the Georgia sophomore, who posted the transition to her Story.

Jade Brown Trains Gainer Full Dismount

The rising Kent State senior was seen training a gainer full dismount into the pit on her Instagram Story. Brown has not competed beam for the Golden Flashes yet in her career – could she be looking to break into the lineup?
