LIVE BLOG: No. 17 Washington and No. 35 Utah State at No. 13 Boise State

Boise State returns home after a lengthy road stretch, hosting the Huskies and MRGC foe Utah State. This will be a test meet of sorts for the Broncos, as they lost senior standout Shani Remme who sustained multiple torn ligaments in her knee while performing her floor routine last weekend at Denver. We don’t truly know the depth of this Bronco team, so seeing who fills the lineups will be particularly interesting.

Washington hasn’t received the big scores to back up its performances this season. Beam, ironically enough for a team that’s been known for the event the past few seasons, remains a question mark for the Huskies with some shaky performances over the past few meets. The Huskies will hope to put together a complete meet and benefit from typically loose Boise State scoring to drop one of the 195s currently be counted in its NQS.

Utah State took a step back last week after scoring a season high 196.075 at West Virginia two weeks ago. That 196 shows the Aggies’ potential, but most of the season the team has hovered right around 195. If Utah State performs to its potential, this will be a very interesting and exciting meet to watch.

BSU VT:

USU bars:

Nilson (BSU) – nice yfull to open, some form but nearly stuck.

Disclaimer: Not sure how much non-BSU we’ll get with this being a tri-meet

Brooks (UW) – ok yay love getting partial routines, looks good from what I saw

Smith (BSU) – another solid vault for the Broncos.

Tueller (USU) – some short hs, but not bad

Bruden (BSU) – good yfull! best vault so far for BSU

Bullitt (USU) – good straddled jaeger; nice next hs; good bail; DLO, slight pike and small hop

McGregor (BSU) – went with a full today, but it was a pretty good one

Rojas (USU) – I love her on this event…hopefully she lives up to they hype; Maloney to bail; then we cut to a vault and straight back; DLO, step forward; looked good? honesty why did we have to cut away mid routine??

I think this was Rose who just went on beam, it was a solid set. But missed approximately half of it.

Roberson (UW) – switch switch jump good; secure turn; she’s very calm and collected; standing loso loso, nailed it! So unique to see that in NCAA; stuck gainer full. That should be a good score for UW.

LOL these commentators just realized that UW has a money gun. “I thought they were just throwing it around” says the guy.

Copiak (UW) – secure turn; bhs loso, good; hitch to switch side good; side aerial, good again; 1.5, hop forward. Good routine overall, should be one of the better scores for the Huskies on beam.

Nelson (UW) – bhs loso, some knees but good landing; sissone split 3/4 good; split to standing loso, was off on the split landing and then bobbled on the loso but ends well.

After 1:
BSU and USU 49.100
UW 48.975

Well, Washington continued to have not stellar beam routines based on the scores, but it is an improvement from past weeks. Boise State had a solid vault rotation and I’m impressed with how they filled Remme’s spot. Utah State also looked to have a good bars rotation from what I saw, which was limited. The Aggies scored a 49.1, which is a great way for them to start the meet.

Rotation 2: BSU UB, USU BB, UW FX

UW Floor:

Bouza (BSU) – bail, good hs mostly; great routine overall; I love her on bars!

Cunningham (UW) – front tuck through to double tuck, good; now we’re gonna cut to bars…and back to floor…finishes with a good double pike.

Means (BSU) – nice tkatchev; bail; step on landing; solid overall

Rojas (USU) – secure turn; switch to straddle good; bhs loso, gorg; switch to side aerial, little shuffle on landing…now to bars…

Stokes (UB) – shap to bail good; dlo, good, small hop; BSU is a great bars team!

Thompson (UW) – big double tuck to open, not the most controlled landing; once she reins in that power she’ll be golden; good leaps; lay lay full, again lots of power but controls it better; now cut to bars…

McGregor (BSU) – maloney to bail hs good; half in half out, good, stuck. Great routine.

We’re getting the good luck horseshoe story again.

WOW. 10 on bars for McGregor.

Muhlenhaupt (BSU) – straddled jaeger to bail lovely; tad short last hs; dlo, slide back.

Washington (UW) – double pike, a little short and low chest; missed rest of routine

Nilson (BSU) – free hip tkatchev good; bail good; DLO, small hop; good routine overall!

Roberson (UW) – first pass good; fhs rudi loso good; good routine from what I saw

Briones (USU) – bhs loso good; she’s so calm; front full good, stuck; great routine!

Hoffa (UW) – big, controlled double pike to open; lay lay full good; leaps solid; finishes with a good double tuck.

Ward-Sessions (USU) – sooo…she’s a beamer now; hitch to switch side good; missed most of routine… double back dismount, just a step.

Brooks (UW) – double tuck to open, landed well but looked more long than tall from this angle; good splits on leaps; 1.5 to lay good; fhs lay lay full good; solid routine for the Huskies.

After 2:
BSU 98.675
UW 98.025
USU 97.45

You can always expect good bars from Boise State, and today was no different. Utah State had a solid beam rotation but it wasn’t enough to keep pace with the Broncos. Upon further review, it looks like the Aggies had to count a fall that I did not see happen. Washington had a solid floor rotation, though I mostly just saw partial routines.

Rotation 3: UW VT, BSU BB, USU FX

UW VT:

https://twitter.com/UWGymnastics/status/1101680641752543232

Bouza (BSU) – ahhh her mount is so pretty! It was great in person last week at Denver too; bhs loso good; I also appreciated that her mount covered up the “Toyota” on Denver’s beam for my photos; good splits on leaps; secure full turn; cat leap front aerial beat jump good; gainer pike, stuck; great leadoff! She’s pumped.

Golison (USU) – switch side popa, solid; wait, did she just balk on something? No clue what’s happening.

Amado (BSU) – bhs bhs 2 foot lay good; good leap series; 1.5, small hop; good routine overall. 9.925 is a career high.

Copiak (UW) – stuck yfull, but pike down and low chest.

McGregor (BSU) – her front tuck mount is so unique; check on switch half; bhs lay, balance check; secure full turn; aerial to full stuck; hit, but not great.

Bullitt (USU) – double pike, a tad short, but lands good; good splits; fhs lay full lay good; fhs rudi, had a weird takeoff but pulled it around.

Esmerian (BSU) – bhs 1 arm bhs loso very secure; good turn; wolf jump to split 3/4 good, maybe a tad short of 180; 1.5, stuck. great routine!

Le Varnadore (USU) – ftdt good; very powerful double pike, well controlled; switch side popa, good splits; andddd cut to beam.

Means (BSU) – bhs loso, good; switch to straddle 3/4, maybe a tad short of 180 but secure; solid on turn; front toss, beat jump good; bhs lay full, stuck. BSU is seriously amazing on beam.

Masiado (BSU) – secure turn; bhs loso good; switch to switch half, good; side aerial, good; 1.5, step to the side, but solid routine overall! Not bad for a lineup without Remme.

DeHarde (USU) – fhs rudi shush good; missed rest of routine.

Muhlenhaupt (BSU) EXH – I think this is her beam debut! bhs loso, good; ahh her lines are so pretty; good full turn; switch, bobble and broke connection; beat to sheep, a little off; she could be a beam star someday; side aerial solid; 1.5, low and squatty but stays on her feet.

Ward-Sessions (USU) – we join her mid routine; 1.5 to lay good; roundoff double pike, good; looked good from what I saw!

Bruden (BSU) EXH – WOW she pulled her bhs bhs lay around. GREAT save. kind of nervy routine; off on side somi; 1.5, a lil short with a step back.

After 3:
BSU 148.1
UW 147.325
USU 146.425

Boise State is a great beam team and I was impressed with Masiado, who came in for Remme. They’re all so pretty and have good form, too. Utah State’s floor was solid, but due to Golison’s miscue the Aggies are counting a 9.625 which results in coming just shy of 49 at 48.975. I didn’t see much UW, but 49.3 is a VERY good score for the Huskies on vault, an event that they’re not typically strong on.

Also. A 49.575 on floor with give BSU a new program high. But that’s a tall task for the Broncos on floor.

Rotation 4: USU VT, UW UB, BSU FX

Nilson (BSU) – opens with good double pike; nice splits; 1.5 to lay, solid landing and good form; fhs rudi, good. Great leadoff for the Broncos!

Washington (UW) – maybe a tad short first hs; clear hip gienger bail good; muscled last hs and arches; half in half out, good landing but some form.

Masiado (BSU) – nice opening double pike; lay lay full, maybe a tad short but couldn’t exactly tell from this angle; fhs rudi, good; solid!

Roberson (UW) -piked jaeger to bail good; short hs; pretty DLO, hop back. good from what I saw of it!

Amado (BSU) – good opening double tuck; switch ring switch half, good splits; 1.5 to lay to stag jump, the jump really helped cover up that landing there; ending double pike, chest slightly low but good landing.

McGregor (BSU) – good double pike to open; good leap extension; 1.5 to lay, secure landing; fhs rudi, very secure; great routine!

Thompson (UW) – good first hs; straddled jaeger, good; great next hs; bail to good hs; ftdt, stuck; great routine!

Bruden (BSU) – big opening double pike; leap series good; 1.5 to lay good, that was a weird roundoff to start with but she worked with it! short double tuck, hops forward a little.

Esmerian (BSU) – fhs double full, good; switch ring tour jete 1/2 good; 1.5 to lay, good, but oob; fhs rudi, good. great way to end the routine!

FINAL:
BSU 197.125
UW 196.75
USU 195.025

Refreshing 197 for BSU, after being stuck in the 196s and they did it without Remme! Washington will be happy to have this 196.75 in its NQS, and USU performed about average to what it has done all season.
