Last Week in College Gym: November 26

During the offseason, it can be difficult to keep up with all the news and training updates happening across the teams. So each week, we will provide a curation of the most exciting upgrades, as well as other important news happening in the college gym world. Note the majority of the training updates highlighted will feature new skills and not someone training their same routine from the past season, for example.

Finally, note we are only able to share links to updates posted on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook and not Instagram Stories or Snapchat. However, we will try to note any clips of note that we see on those disappearing platforms.

Cami Bea Austin adds Tkatchev

The Centenary junior added a big Tkatchev on bars this week, an upgrade from the straddle back + toe shoot routine she’s performed in the past.

Alyssa Wiggle Upgrades Bars

Illinois State’s Alyssa Wiggle upgraded her bars set to include a blind full + Gienger + bail combination. She did not connect the Gienger to bail directly last year.

N.C. State Prepares for Season

N.C. State held an intrasquad this past weekend and posted highlights on Instagram. On vault, Caitlyn Fillard, Alexa Phillips, Drew Grantham and Paris Phillips all showed solid Yurchenko fulls. Lauren Kent, Caitlyn Fillard and Maggie Tamburro were highlighted on bars while Kent, Fillard and Alexa Philips displayed confidence on beam. We also got a sneak peak of Alexa Phillips’ choreography on floor, as well full routines from Grantham and Melissa Brooker, the latter of whom we have not seen on floor in college thus far.

North Carolina Getting Ready for Season

The Tar Heels posted beam and floor highlights from their most recent intrasquad. On beam, Alexis Allen, Grace Donaghy, Rylie Dewhurst and Jamie DeCicco all showed solid, confident routines. On floor, North Carolina showed why it was the sixth best floor team in the country last season with solid tumbling from Mikayla Robinson, Madison Hargrave, Khazia Hislop and Jamie Antinori.

Arkansas Freshmen Work Vault

Three Arkansas freshmen showed strong vaults this week. Amanda Elswick worked her strong Yurchenko 1.5 that could easily anchor the lineup, with Kennedy Hambrick appearing to show the same vault. Savannah Pennese rounded out the showing with a big Yurchenko full.

Utah Holds Thanksgiving Intrasquad

The Utes are looking ready to get the season started in their Thanksgiving intrasquad highlight video, featuring a stuck DTY and nearly stuck double double on floor from junior Mykayla Skinner, a steady triple series on beam and a stuck piked full-in on floor by senior MaKenna Merrell-Giles, and many more skills and releases by the rest of the team.
