Leotard Rankings: Pink Meets

Almost every team hosts or participates in a pink meet in honor of breast cancer research. So rather than include them in with the regular leotards each week, we decided to do one big pink post. But we won’t include the score in with the regular season totals, because comparing a random pink leotard to a well-intentioned team design isn’t exactly fair.

Once again, we’re joined by special quest Gabrielle to the panel while Casey is off hanging out with Shang Chunsong in China. But while we have a guest judge, the criteria remains the same:up to three points for design; two points for fabric, sparkle, etc.; and two points for school spirit (or in this case, pink-meet spirit); three points for overall appearance. We want to know what you thought too (or if we forgot one of your favorites from this weekend)! Let us know in the comments below or on Twitter.

When I heard they were doing green, I was worried. When I actually saw this leo, I wasn’t quite sure what to think. It’s not bad? I’m sure it was hard to design a green and pink leo, and I commend them for supporting other cancers. All in all, just average.

I didn’t hate this. The pink and green combo could have been much, much worse, but this green was a nice color and there wasn’t too much of it. I like the choice of using hot pink. It goes well with the majority-black body. I liked the sparkly cuffs and the design on the front too. Overall, not bad for the causes Georgia was supporting.

I’m not a huge fan of the color combo or how the black meets the pink near the neckline. You can’t see in this picture but on the back there’s a breast cancer ribbon made of pink sequins, which looks really nice. The N on the front looks a little awkward but at least it shows both pink meet and school spirit.

The N makes me think of a heart monitor in a hospital. Good! The girls are still alive! But the pink color is nice. I’m also going to go ahead and say you should never have the word “BIG” anywhere on a female gymnast’s leotard. Yeah, yeah, conference pride or whatever, but figure out something different. Or at the very least make it smaller.

This kind of resembles a compulsory team leo rather than that of a top ranked collegiate team. The glitter design is nice, but otherwise I’m not a huge fan.

This pink is so bubble gum, Barbie, Pepto Bismol. I like the type of sparkle used. It’s more delicate than a normal rhinestone. But the rest is too yuck.

I usually like simple, but I think this one could use an additional color or at least another type of fabric to spice it up a little. The rhinestone design on the chest is nice, but the rhinestone sleeve cuffs aren’t.

I’m choosing to ignore the fact that Minnesota and Oregon State literally have the exact same cancer leo because this is one of the best ones. The magenta is lovely and the sparkles aren’t out of control and turn a somewhat boring leo into a more-interesting one. It’s simple but nice on and pretty much makes everyone look good.

This is nice. While the pink and glitter is there, it’s not overwhelming, and has a cool effect depending on how the light reflects. Nothing hints this is Florida, but that’s okay.

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but there needed to be more sparkle. The pink was nice but too subtle. I couldn’t tell what the pattern was supposed to be, but it looked sort of like psychedelic tie-dye? It may sound like I didn’t like it, but I actually did. Not my favorite Gator pink leo, but not bad either.

This one is really appealing with the pink mesh sleeve and black bodice. I like that the sparkle is pink and subtle. The one shoulder strap also makes it a little more unique.

This leo is fine for a pink meet. I like this color pink versus, say, Pepto Bismol or baby pink. The rest is kind of boring. I don’t really care for the random strap. I keep thinking her bra is showing. The pink accents are fine on the chest but they could have been different. Maybe something Florida-y to make is more of a Florida leotard.

This is nothing special, but at least it’s not ugly. It could use some more sparkle or mesh or something to break up the plain black. At least they included the cancer ribbon.

Elizabeth
Design: 1.2/3
Fabric/Sparkle: 0.9/2
School Spirit/Pink Meet Spirit: 1/2

It’s not bad. The sequin effect of the pink ribbon is different, and I kind of like it. I don’t like how the top of the ribbon is under the girl’s armpit though. It does make the rest of the design look kind of cool? Overall, though, if you miss the pink part, which isn’t super obvious, it just looks like a boring black leo.

I actually like this a lot, just because it’s fresh and different. True, it has minimal pink, but the contrast against the dark blue makes it stand out. The back is unique, and I really like the gentle sparkle design.

I wish UCLA had a real pink leo. Good effort, but I feel like Miss Val of all people could come up with something classy and not medicinal. It is better than the flowery “pink” leo they sometimes wear for the occasion. I do like how the girls dyed their hair pink to match. It actually looked good with the leos and whatnot.

No major complaints for this leo. It has the right amount of pink and sparkle. It’s not too spirited as far as breast cancer or school pride though.

This is one of the better pink leos. It’s not super creative or anything, but the shade of pink is nice. I like the mesh sleeve and the design on the front isn’t too much or too little. I could stand for it to be more Washington-y, though. This could be any team’s leo.

I really loved the shiny pink on this leo. The simple sweetheart neckline and sparkles on the chest were a good touch as well. The school spirit also wasn’t overwhelming! You go, Arkansas.

LSU does it again. The metallic pink and blue look great against the solid black, and the design is pretty but also sporty. Hopefully more teams will follow their lead of supporting other cancers in addition to breast cancer.

I like that they’re bringing in prostate cancer, too, with the blue. The pink and blue go together well and aren’t too in your face or too baby gender reveal shower. Overall it’s good and not, “Here let’s pick any old leo and wear it for the cancer meet.”

Going to have to disagree with Elizabeth on this one. I like the swirl design and how the colors are similar but not the same. It looks like one of the colors is orangish, which is appropriate and brings in some school spirit. The rhinestone breast cancer ribbon on the sleeve is a nice touch.

This looks like a J.O. leo. Auburn can do better. I don’t like how the two pink colors are different when the design makes it look like they should match. They’re so similar in color, they should either be the same or quite different. I do like the two different colored arms though

The is one of my favorite pink leos. The breast cancer ribbon is there without being too there and the school spirit is represented well in a neat way the the ribbon flowing to the back into the Super G. I also really like the silvery-bronze color on the arms and the sweetheart neckline.

It’s not very attention-grabbing, but it’s a decent pink meet leo that incorporates the pink ribbon and a subtle “A” for Arkansas. The mesh sleeve adds some needed detail. Good, not amazing.

I didn’t like this one at first, but it grew on me as I watched the meet. SImilar to Georgia’s, I like how the ribbon transforms into the Script A. The hue isn’t bad either. I wish both arms were the same material, though. The one mesh, one nylon is meh. Maybe a bit more sparkle, too.

This one seems so plain. The pink is a bit too light for me. You can barely see the ribbon design. The black and white is fine, and definitely better than all pink or something. It’s just kind of boring overall.

Eh. This leotard looks like they took a GK stock design and said, “This looks like a good one for the pink meet!” It’s kind of boring and looks like a leo you’d see at a level 10 meet or maybe on a level 5. Plus the shade of pink is medicinal.

Um, no. Try again Kentucky. The design is tired and very J.O. That color combination is a no, but props for trying to still be Kentucky-y while also supporting breast cancer. I can’t really find anything good about this leo… Maybe the white sleeve?
