Brenna Dowell Qualifies to U.S. World Championships Team

After deferring a year from college to train elite, Oklahoma’s Brenna Dowell has been selected to represent the U.S. at the world championships, according to USA Gymnastics. As a freshman last year, Dowell was the runner-up on floor at the NCAA championships and became a first-team All-American on bars and floor. As a team, the Sooners placed third.Future NCAA athletes also on the U.S. team include Madison Kocian (UCLA), Mykayla Skinner (Utah) and Maggie Nichols (Oklahoma). Pro athletes Simone Biles, Aly Raisman and Gabrielle Douglas will also represent the United States. Meanwhile, Alyssa Baumann and Bailie Key were named non-traveling alternates.

The 2015 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships will be held in Glasgow from Oct. 23 until Nov. 1. The top eight teams earn a spot for their country to compete at the 2016 Olympic Games.
