Michigan September 2015 Training Updates

September 11, 2015
On the first day of Michigan’s preseason, the team worked tumbling passes onto hard surfaces. The year will start with these landings before gradually building up to the competition floor. And often times it’s harder to have a good landing on a soft surface, but the Wolverines didn’t seem to have any issues.

More floor work for the Wolverines because practice makes perfect. And with some gymnasts upgrading to new skills in 2016, it’s important to get in as many repetitions as possible. Senior Briley Casanova is already up to a slightly higher and harder surface than just four days previous (second video).

Like Oklahoma, the Wolverines have been working all summer on upgrading vaults to start at a 10.0 since the new rule modifications have devalued the popular Yurchenko full to only a 9.95 start.

After injuring herself at the end of the 2014 season and working her way slowly back in 2015, senior Austin Sheppard is finally looking back in her old shape in these highlights of her tumbling passes on floor.

If the team gets its new vaults consistent by January, fans could see an entire lineup of 10.0 start values, which might be rare with the new modifications being announced not too long ago. Only the best teams will have anywhere close to six 10.0 vaults in a lineup.

From E-level acro and dismounts to combinations and connections, the Wolverines put in work on beam Monday to start the week off. Things are shaping to be quite exciting in 2016.

A little more beam before a lot more vault, like the caption reads, shows big improvements on the 10.0 start values with the team’s one and a halves onto floor-level mats.

A little beam and A LOT of vault!! #GoBlue #Team40

The team wrapped up a successful day on bars with drills and skills. At this point in the preseason, Michigan looks to be in a good place if the pace stays steady.

Emma the freshie rockin’ some bars! #Newbie #GoBlue

The Wolverines took to the floor Tuesday during practice. Senior Austin Sheppard was limited to two events in 2015 after coming back from an injury suffered at the end of 2014. Fellow senior Briley Cassanova also showed off her tumbling, hoping to add a double layout back to her routine in 2016. And then there’s Talia Chiarelli, training not one but two E-level passes.
